I am looking at a soft .40 S&W handgun that shoots soft and flat under. I narrowed it to the M&P, CZ 75B Compact or even Beretta PX4. They are all about the same price range.

M&P - Shorter reset, lighter weight, more after market products, grip is good but not as good as CZ. Slightly lower bore axis.

CZ - Reset can be shortened, heavier 37.8 oz, grip is perfect, lower bore than 1911's but slightly higher than M&P, more accurate than M&P based on test data from gun magazines sub 2" at 25 yards and consistant between ammo types. I have a CZ SP01 in 9mm and it is very easy to shoot fast and accurate.

I carry a M&P40 at work. When we first got them a little over a year ago they were great! I was quite optimistic about the new sidearms. A little over a year has passed and the pistols that are used for training, having only had approx:1,500 to 3,000 rds through them, are becoming very loose and sloppy, I thought the thing was going to fly apart in my hands when on the range a few weeks ago. The accuracy has dropped off considerably and the triggers have become very inconsistent, one never knows when it's going to go bang, sometimes it breaks clean when it's supposed to other times one just keeps pressing until it mushes through and sets the weapon off. This is a very disconcerting feature. I now just don't think these pistols are going to have a very good durability record.
I too have the CZ-P01 and think very highly of it. If the CZ75B Compact is as good as it's 9mm cousin, I think you'll really like it.
I've checked out and fired a Beretta PX4, I liked it alot and have heard only good things about them.
To be entirely fair, The M&P40s that we have were the first off the assembly line as we were perhaps the first large agency to be issued them, so it's only natural that there will be some teething problems and S&W has bent over backwards to assist the dept in any and every way! The customer support they have shown us says a lot! Good customer service is a real plus when buying a product, in my opinion.

That's disconcerting. My roundcount is lower than yours, but I haven't experienced the same issues. I'm pretty sure our ordies are continuing to use and abuse our test guns and some of them should have VERY high roundcounts by now. I mean VERY high. Five figures easily. Maybe low six (but that's a sheer guess).

That said, if I personally had to choose between the CZ75 and the M&P, I would choose the CZ. The gun fits my hand as well as the M&P, the trigger is very good and very tweakable, and it is accurate and points well. What makes it a lock for the CZ, for me, is the fact that you can carry it C&L. In SA mode the trigger is better than even the very good M&P trigger.

Of course, if I could pick anything I wished, I'd pick a BHP.

HAHAHA!!! Yep, I like my BHP the most as well! Like I said I think with our M&Ps being among the first out of the plant, I'm sure S&W are working like Santa's elves to tweak the guns. At first we ahd the spontanious dropping of mags problem and S&W fixed it quick. S&W are quick to send out their techs to the dept to address any concerns the training sect has.
It's my understanding that pistols that have left S&W later have had some small changes that have made a big difference.

My personal preference is CZ. I loved my 9mm PCR, then it was stolen. I've never picked up a gun that felt as good as the 75. You probably know that CZs get better as you shoot them, they wear like a glove, better with time. From what strangelittleman says, the M&P seems to wear like a sneaker. :neener: The CZ75 got all its kinks worked out before I was born, so I know what I'd choose. :D

I just came from the range where I rented an old M&P40. First the right side slide stop had broken off the front sight paint had come off.

The good:
Muzzle flip and felt recoil was a bit lower than Glock 22.

Shorter reset than my stock CZ 97B, Sp01, HK USP, but longer than 1911.

I had two light stikes in a row (its a range gun).

The Bad:
I was more accurate with my CZ 97B (45 acp). It was easier to be shoot where you wanted to with the CZ.

M&P moved in my hand a bit when firing (it had the midium grip and I have long finger, larger back strap would be better).

Trigger reset was not as loud and had no feel.

The web of my hand could not go all the way up on the grip. There was always a gap there. Larger back strap would help again.

The trigger reset and overtravel on an M&P are VERY easily adjusted. You can make the trigger very light, very crisp, with a positive reset and almost no overtravel.

The CZ is going to weight considerably more than the M&P. That may be good or bad, depending upon your perspective.
