found this nice example today. Small amount of finish wear and appears to have been shot very little. Serial number is 667,000 range and would seem to come from the late '30s

The Smith experts have pretty much narrowed the production period to 1938-39. I haven't ask for a letter but, to look at it, it seems to have lead a rather quite existance. There is holster wear the muzzle and some minor holster wear on opposit sides of the cylinder. It looks like it sat in a holster indexed to the same chamber for a long time and was not carried around or shot much.

The action is new-tight with positive pre-timing before full hammer stand. Single action trigger pull weights out right beween 3.5 and 4 pounds. Grip Checkering is sharp with no scratches or wear.

I asked the dealer about it and he said " Some old man brought it in."

I can't view the picture because of the security setup on my work computer, but it sounds as if it's in really nice shape. I'll check it out when I get home.

The old man may well have purchased it new and never taken it out of the dresser drawer.

That's a nice old Smith.

Here's mine -- an M1905 M&P, 4th Change with an adjustable rear site and McGivern bead front. Note that the grips don't have the S&W eustacheon, which indicates it was made in the mid-1920s.

There were a pair of these floating around here a couple of decades ago. One was actually a 1931 k- 22 but both had the u -notch rear with tiny ivory bead front. The M&P target was said to date from 1910 but I dont know for sure. In any case, I got to shoot it slow fire on a 25 yard NRA center anda recall a group of about 3" in the black.
Totally class revolver
