M & P Shield light primer strikes.

Has anyone experienced light primer strikes (failures to fire) with their Shield? I am sending one back to S & W per their instructions. It was purchased not long after they came out.

Bought mine new shortly after introduction, making it a gen 1.
Pretty much same as all my Smiths ... pull trigger, recover from recoil, rinse and repeat. Assuming it's properly clean, your return is probably the best immediate resolution

Over 5k through my version 1 Shield 9mm, and probably around 2k through my 45 Shield... never a problem.

Did you try removing the firing pin to see if something is stuck in there?

It was bought new and not shot that much which really has me buffaloed. When it was new it shot like a house a fire. I thought of taking the firing pin out and the spring, but I figure S & W will fix it on their dime. I think the spring has taken set over the years, but we will see.

I doubt the spring has taken a set. Here's s shot in the dark, no offense intended. You didn't happen to lube the striker did you? The striker and striker channel needs to be bone dry, just like a Glock.

No I did not. The gun had been sitting around for a while and it was dry as a bone. I did the "pencil test" and compared it to my glock and it barely made it out of the barrel. Unscientific as it sounds it's just a guideline.

That's too bad in a way, it would have been an easy fix. Sounds like it needs to go back to S&W and I imagine they'll send you a label. Good luck.

I already have the label. I could have bought a new striker assembly, but I figured the gun was so old that it would be best for them to go over it as there may have been some upgrades.
