M1 rifle and carbine, when did they first see combat?

The Garand definately saw action in Operation Torch. I believe the Carbine did as well.

The earliest action for the Garand would probably be in the Phillapines. A few infantry units had converted by the time the Japanese invaded. The Carbine was not in the Phillapines at that time though.

Remember, the M1 had already been in production for over 4 full years by the time of Pearl Harbor. Between them, SA and Winchester had already made almost a half million rifles by the time of the attack. Plenty of both time and rifles for a good part of the Army to have them......
