Ok guys not sure how/why but this particular rifle is calling to me. I want to make one similar to this so let’s talk about it if a man were wanting to build one up
(Yes I know I can buy a clone from several places) what all parts would a man need, no it’s not going to be an exact clone.I don’t have that kinda of cash also I think we have better glass now.

I want you to be able to look at it and see the idea of an M40a1 there
Uses
Range
Hunt
Stare at and fondle

Also any backstory or comments on the M40A1 is appreciated

i have the B&C m40 stock, but with a m24 barrel, how close of a clone are you thinking.. and whats your budget.

I wish nature boy I could afford a GA precision but it’s not in the cards plus I’m going to build it in 6.5 Creedmoor (everyone gasps in shock and anger) I just want the right look not a true clone

Sounds like a fun project. What’s your budget?

And @troy fairweather ’s B&C with a paint job to match the classic look of the McMillian might be cheaper

Stocky’s has those for $271

If you could do the paint yourself you’d be in business

Do you have the action and barrel sourced yet?

Douglas makes the barrel with the proper contour. Looking at the GAP link that’s what they are using for their version. Of course you’d be looking for a 6.5 bore.

Or, you could find a Remington doaner already chambered in 6.5 creed with a heavy varmint contoured barrel and be pretty close.

For some guys building these M40 clones, it’s all about the details. Authenticity of components seems to be of major concern to them. My impression is you just want to end up some something cool and close in appearance to the original
