Mag capacities for Savage 99 & BLR .308?

Savage 99's with the rotary magazine have a five round capacity, and most of the Savage 99's with the drop nmagazine do as well. I *believe* that the 99C in 284 had a four round capacity instead of five....

BLR detachable box magazine capacity is five rounds in standard calibers and four rounds in magnum calibers.

rotary mag 99's are 5 +1 don't own none of them stinkin' post 65' drop boxes

Savage 99 C or CD with detachable magazine will accept 4 .308 cartridges in the magazine. I bought a spare magazine for mine (to have just in case I lose one on a hunting trip). You can load the rifle (and magazine) without removing the magazine. Most people that decry the detachable magazine do so from a sense of traditionalism, not function; I have never had a failure due to a magazine malfunction.

If you can't kill a deer/antelope/elk with 4 rounds of .308, is one extra round likely to make a difference?

Folks don't decry the drop-mag variant of the Savage 99 for the redcued magazine capacity. They do so because the fit-n-finish and mechanical precision of the drop mag version isn't nearly as nice as the earlier rotary-magazine variants.
