Committee hearing in room 409 is running over, delaying the start of the hearing on this, in room 212

Also, since this bill affects out of states traveling through Illinois or doing business with Illinois citizens, I'd like to point out you don't NEED to be an Illinois resident to file a witness slip. Just fill out the details, make sure the oppose box is checked, and check 'record of appearance only'.

Then sit back and listen to the dog and pony show Chicago puts on.

Illinois State Police registered as 'proponents'. Interested to hear what they have to say about my dangerous boxes of metal and springs.

You guys should listen to this stuff at least once. The senator proposing the bill (zowtoski) repeatedly called standard capacity magazines 'destructive devices' the other day. Todd Vandermyde, NRA lobbyist, correctly pointed out that the legal definition for DD's is bazookas, rocket launchers, etc.

Didn't matter. He kept calling them destructive devices.

Executive committee just called to order. That live stream is active now in room 212

Sigh. Zowtowski held the thespian amendment, guess that means sb1002 goes to the floor without the movie industry support.

Committee adjourned.

Guess we wait to see if there is any floor action today.

Cullerton got a shell bill out of exec on to the floor. We'll get to see unreviewed floor amendments on that one I'm sure. Another big dog and pony show for test votes, no doubt, like they did in the house awhile back.

Must mean they are unsure of whether they have enough support on passing this, and want a test vote on a throwaway before risking the real bill... or they just want food for attack ads later.

To fill those in on what that live shell bill represents..

Cullerton can now add floor amendments to the bill, piecemeal. These floor amendments will NOT go through committee, will NOT get reviewed for legality, will NOT present the opportunity for either side to present witnesses or testimony. They won't get financial or constitutionality review. They will not get a chance for review, generally the amendments don't even get published in time for the actual vote.

It's a very dangerous situation reminiscent of what happened in New York state earlier this year.

Trent, this sounds like the way Co was done......we did get it upped to
15 rds. Frustration is they will listed to no one! Good luck!
Dan
