Making a 366 Rigby

Did a little poking around and it appears to be a marbles sight for a winchester 1886. With a skilled welder you could add this to an extra cocking piece and have what you need. But yikes these little guys aren't cheap, bout 120 bucks! Should be able to ship it for a lot less than that I would think...

Yeah the waiting is a bit tedious, I think I worked on the rifle every day over the holidays so I've got a bit of withdrawal syndrome. I got so bad that I started to renovate an old turnscrew, I've even stained it with alkanet oil :rolleyes

Funny you should say that, I've found another 98 sporter stock to remake.

It's a Parker Hale with pressed checkering that seems to have been dipped in lacquer.
It's also been equipped with a sort of accessory rail inletted with forstner drill bit and epoxy bedded with black epo.

Totally bedded.
There must be at least a pound of epo in there, it's been oozing everywhere.

I've been stripping the lacquer a bit at a time but it's really thick coated.

It also sports a cheesy aluminium bottom metal with a crosseyed sheep on the floor plate.

Whatever I do to this stock will be an improvement!

Sounds like burning it might be an improvement... Good for you to take that on...

Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart!

Paint stripper makes smelly goo

Those pieces just fell out when I removed the floor

You can see the proof mark 20200208_103353.jpg
Please note the graceful divergence of the lower edge of the checkering and the bottom of the grip.

Classy like all get out.
He definitely looks like he's been in close proximity of a Welshman wearing wellies and not enjoyed it very much.

Surprisingly attractive, looked like a melanoma before the lacquer was stripped.
It has a greenish tint, might it be sap wood?

"Carefully apply a drop of finish in the checkering, scrub vigorously with a clean toothbrush to keep it from clogging" 20200208_104404.jpg

Faux leather covered butt pad, very posh.
And a white spacer that looks like it's been made out of an ice cream bucket.

I discovered that it was much faster and easier to use a card scraper than to mess about with the paint stripper.
