LRDGCO
Savage TR22
CCI Green Tag

Was surprised at how badly I shoot offhand! That wants some practice. Was also surprised that I shot better with the Savage. It’s heavy. That 113 year old Marlin is super light and has an amazing trigger!

The big takeaway from this one was on target #3. Say it ain't so, but this box of beloved Federal Ultramatch had a bad 8-ring flyer. I know that I sure didn't aim there!

Argh ...
Tomorrow will have to wait.
Got 4" of snow last night, thunderstorms tonight. 40 mph gusts today, 30 mph gusts tomorrow. Not a good day to try sending 40gr projectiles downrange.
Maybe next week.

I would very much like to participate & if the weather holds up I can do it this week. My beloved Mossberg 46M(b) w/target sights is ready to go. If the showdown is not on it's OK I'm going to do it anyway & see how I do against the other shooters. This is what having these forums is all about. Learning & great fun!

My submissions. First off, my Remington 581 my dad bought for me when I was around 13 years old. Was my first gun. Took two tries for rested class 3, not my best shooting with , it can I with it can be more accurate but this is what I did today. Actually surprised how I did class 4 at 100 yds

Next my Marlin 60 I bought in around 2002 or 2003 which I don't think I even have 200 rounds through it yet. Class 3 rested it is shooting to the right I need to tap that rear sight and get it dialed in sometime. Class 1 standing I lost a couple shots not even on target.

You should get a bonus for trying 50yd offhand, iron sights, shooting THUNDERBOLTS. o_O

My Remington 581 with Aguila ammo, when I do my part there is no reason not to have all shots in the 10 ring maybe a couple in the 9 ring, but it is what I did yesterday and I am disappointed knowing it can be very accurate. I shot from 10am to 3pm yesterday and didn't do 50 yard .22 till the end of the day so I may have been a little burned out by then after doing handgun, sighting in my 45-70 and a 30-30 and testing ammo .

Thunderbolt ammo, when I test it rested it doesn't do much worse than Winchester ammo or Remington golden bullet, I haven't tried CCI yet. My opinion when shooting standing the shooter has more to do with it than the ammo mostly, my front sight swung left to right, right to left and timing with trigger control comes more into play. I f I had more time I would have tried Winchester ammo standing but I did the Marlin standing last 20 minutes before the range closed.

It felt good though, to shoot standing with .22 hadn't done it in a while. I have two more .22 rifle, a Westernfield 842 but the bolt is broken and have another 581 but it is not sighted in at all yet. So hopefully next challenge I can include them.

Actually, my TC Contender shoots T-bolts quite well, out to 50 yds.
I used them in shooting IHMSA silhouette matches, and many people were surprised....

I don't doubt that Thunderbolts will shoot under an 1" group at 50 yards in a good gun provided you pick the right 5 outta the box.

provided you pick the right 5 outta the box.

Thats funny.
When you can hear the difference in report between rounds I question accuracy. Maybe ok on steel but not a target with scoring rings. I shoot indoor 50' / 4 position in winter. Even with an offhand wobble NO ONE handicaps them self with cheap ammo. Of course the ten ring is a dot no bigger then this period. .

well jeez guys go ahead and grill me :) hey so I used Thunderbolt for standing with the Marlin, main thing is I found out what I do with it in the Marlin standing as I didn't dedicate all day to testing the Marlin.

All in good just.
Shoot what you want, just get out and shoot.

I'm actually jealous. Outdoor rimfire and centerfire silhouette matches were canceled today due to highwinds, rain and SNOW.

I shot with Ruger 10/22 Take Down wife bought me as Christmas present a few years back with Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 and Caldwell front rest (Shouldered and no rear rest). While I shot for groups at 25 yards, haven't shot groups at 50 yards.

One thing I found was even though I tightened the barrel ring tensioner to the point where I could barely rotate barrel and click it into place, when I rested the forearm on the Caldwell rest, it moved the POI up more than 6 inches. So I conducted the shooting with only the receiver on the rest with no part of forearm touching the rest.

I now do most of my 22LR plinking with my 16"/18"/20" ARs with CMMG 22LR conversion kits so I will repeat the 50 yard Class 3 with them and post results.

My excuse is a 15mph crosswind is a bit much for standing freehand.
The sights make this a fun rifle though.

Good shooting off hand with iron sights. Instead of Take Down, now I wish I had gotten the regular synthetic stock stainless model. You gave me encouragement to try Class 2 now.

When I shoot Class 3 with my ARs/CMMG 22LR conversion, I will attempt Class 2 with my Take Down.

bds, any feeding problems with the Aquila ammo in your semi auto? It shoots great in my bolt action but in my semi auto and semi auto handguns I have feeding problems with it. Just to make me feel better about my submitted target when I do my part Aquila shoots real good in my 581, at least in 5 shot groups I really need to try 10 shots again for my own piece of mind in the future. Only thing about Aquila it has a foul smell when fired off.
