66 points, no X, two handed at 15 yards.

Uberti 1851 Navy .36, London Model, 20 grains of 2F Schuetzen under a pure lead home cast 0.380 ball, no wad just powder and ball. Only this one target shot due to time limitations. The first two shots were wide left, so I tried Kentucky windage to shake a few shots into the black. Both the gun and I are capable of smaller groups

71 points, no X, two handed at 15 yards.

Ruger Old Army, 30 grains of 2F Schuetzen under a home cast pure lead 0.457 ball, no wad. Again, only one target shot. First two shots were high at 11 o'clock, so the point of aim wandered a bit to try for a score.

Wish I had time to do these over, hate posting targets that don't do the guns justice. Both hit POA nicely at cowboy action distances, 5 to 8 yards. But I guess most guns do at that short range! ;)

I've been slammed at work and with kids and school and stuff so I haven't shot any of the BP pistols I wanted to. Any chance of extending this until the end of April? The pocket pistol one ran for 2 full months IIRC.

When I shot for this challenge I accidentally set the first target at 10 yards and after shooting it I thought, "well this won't be so bad". Most all of the shots went into the black. Imagine my disappointment when I realized I was 5 yards short.

Moving the targets out to 15 yards really opened up my groups. I tried my cowboy reloads and factory cowboy loads but couldn't get consistent accuracy. I figured it was either me or the ammo.

Then for fun I used the same targets and the same 15 yard distance to try out 3 different .357 mag hand-loads. I used a 6" Dan Wesson revolver, shot all single action, 2 hand unsupported, 12 rounds per target. I was able to keep all 3 test batches of 12 rounds inside the black. But I didn't take pics of that, so can't prove it. :)

It was challenging and humbling for me. I usually shoot my cowboy guns at CAS distances and really never try for tight accuracy so it was neat to get out of my comfort zone.

Due to popular request this challenge is extended to the end of April and the .22 challenge will be held off for now

Thanks! Tonight I was able to dig my Rugers out of deep storage at my youngest sons home. Since he had just moved - and everything was still boxed - and mostly unlabelled - it was a bit of a challenge! :cuss:

To further sweeten the deal, it's supped to rain everyday through the end of the month - so this is a real reprieve for me... :D

Thank you. Don't think I'll win & don't care but it's great being able to participate because I love my single action/

been interesting, wondering if anyone is going to bring a Schofield out, and I have to look back in the thread but don't think a Bisley has been brought out yet either.

At my local gun store yesterday someone sold to the store a new in box never cocked Colt new Frontier made in 1980 in .44 special. Just beautiful but I'd wind up having it as a safe queen and I trying to avoid that from now on.

Thanks for extending it, I will hopefully get one posted up next week.
Is it one target entry per gun, or could the same gun be used by myself and my 10 year old son and I enter both targets?

it is alright to enter a family member using a same gun, just make note of it when posting

I took several of my cap and ball revolvers to the range tonight but I underestimated how long it takes me to load and shoot 26 shots. LOL

I started with the Pietta .36 1851, loaded it up with 20 grains of FFg (I burned up all my 3f) under lubed felt wads and Hornady .375" balls, Remington #10 caps, and shot 6 sighters from 15 yards on a B3. Based on the center of that group I guesstimated where I should stick my POA sticky, and proceeded to shoot 10 for score from 15 yards, two handed. The first couple shots surprised me as the trigger on this thing is surprisingly good, especially compared to my Colt SAA which has a terrible trigger.

After 5 shots I walked down range to see if I was close and was surprised to see 2 Xes.

So I held the same place for the last 5 and it printed another X and a score of 95-3x! Wow! For me that's amazing. I haven't shot this pistol other than at steel plates at 20 yards. Looks like I need to file the left side of the notch a little.

The target was already fuzzy at 15 but I figured I already got the gun dirty so I may as well try from 25, so I estimated where my POA should be and shot five balls. Way higher and further right than I figured, so I put another POA sticky on and shot my final 5 for a score of 76. It was getting pretty smoky by the end and I need a new prescription obviously so those are my excuses. :D

Fun!

I shot the 9mm Blackhawk today. My plan was to shoot some orphan ammo off the shelf and call it a day. If now someone tells me their 9mm Ruger Blackhawk shoots great or shoots awful, I will believe them. The first ammo I shot I was planning to get a quick zero on the gun and shoot a target. It was all over the place and at best an 80. I either forgot how to shoot or the revolver just hates that load. I then found a partial box of 115 Penn cast SWC rounds that must have been there a while because they were loaded with WSF and I since switched to Power Pistol in 9mm as it tests more accurate. In any case, at 15 yards they went where aimed and it was my fault when it missed.

Class 1; 15 yards, iron sights
Score: 94-2X
Date: 4/1/2019
Ruger Blackhawk-9mm cylinder
115 Penn SWC with WSF
