Here are a couple for starters. I was working on 10mm revolver loads at the range today, but I brought a Glock along for the challenge.

First I shot the Glock 22 that I had literally just grabbed one full mag on the way out the door. So I only shot it at 10 yds.

Glock 22
Ammo: Whatever 180 gr. ammo was in the mag

I continue to be impressed by this “budget” barrel from Bear Creek Armory. I think I paid around $49 for it. It has always run well and accuracy has been excellent. I hung in there pretty well at 10 & 15 yards, but managed to drop a couple shots off just below the paper at 25 yds. Since this is a self defense challenge, I should note they all would have been in the thoracic cavity of a “bad guy” target.

Ok people, prepare to be impressed...

Since this is a Defensive Gun challenge, I pulled out one that I might drop in my pocket when running out for a minute. There’s some adage about an underpowered gun being better than no gun. I’m starting to question that. I think if I’m close enough for this little thing to be effective, I’d be better pulling out my Benchmade folder.

The gun in question is a NAA Mini revolver in .22LR. I figured this one would be especially challenging with the time limit, as reloading involves pulling the cylinder pin, removing the cylinder, use the pin to punch out empties, load, then reinstall the cylinder and pin.

I’m pleased to say I completed all 10 shots in 57.06 seconds. I’m less pleased to report that I did not hit the target a single time at 10 yards, resulting in a score of Zero. For maximum effectiveness, I had shot CCI Stingers for the challenge.

Afterward I moved up to 3 yards and shot some Fed Value Pack ammo at the target. About half of the bullets were tumbling and hit the target sideways. Also, the grouping at 3 yds. might explain why I was missing at 10 yds. Oh well. Here’s what the 3-yd. target looks like.

well, I am currently under a "stay at home" restriction, but I don't expect it to last that long.
plus, the range is closed.... :(
ammo shortages (actually re-supply) will impact what I can shoot.
I will be entering the longer distances too - I feel brave!

This is indeed impressive. I should try this with a cap and ball pistol. I had the process down to about 2 minutes the last time I ran 100+ shots in a row. but I was loading with loose powder and greased wads. I wonder how quickly you can stuff 4 paper cartridges in, seat them, cap them, and get them out the barrel.

This was the first time I've been to the range in probably two months and the first time I've had my timer out in a couple of years.

I should've slowed down.

Having shot one of those revolvers I don't think that's half bad.

20200403_164947_resized.jpg The M-65 at 15 yds. 97 with 4x's.

This is fun. For years now I've shot less at targets, because my eyes were really starting to go bad. Finally the opthamologist quit saying "buy drugstore readers" and I've got corrective lenses, and I can see the front sight and the target! I will be able to get back into shooting targets rather than steel. I'm shooting at home, so no warmpus, no other guns, just a target 10 rounds and that's it. I like this challenge, and need to load up some .38's, for other options, and will stretch it to 25 yards soon.

Must be nice.... All the ranges are closed in my state :(... Hopefully I can play next time around.

Extra cylinders are your friend. I have 3 for my 1858 rem.
