According to this article, March was surpassed only by sales around the time of the Sandy Hook shooting and post election panic in Jan. 2013.

March sales figures are based on requests for background checks, and totaled 1.9 million, vs. 2 million in Jan. '13.

Pres. Trump, after lobbying by the gun industry, declared gun stores essential businesses thus allowing them to stay open.

LGS I used to frequent had Pres. Obama’s portrait prominently displayed as “Gun Salesman of the Year”.

I honestly thought this past March would have been the record. Go figure.

Now that the White House has made its decision, it’s up to state leaders to determine whether to comply with the federal guidelines. .

I totally understood the last Banic scare. After all, that’s when I bought my first AR. All politics and rightly so.

This one is a complete mystery to me.

Fortunately, I have purchased all the entry-level firearms I will ever need.
I was caught off guard by the snap up of reloading stuffs, but have enough and I’m not restocking supplies during a run up of prices.

I am happy that many are new owners though.
I like having friends!:)

I bought my first AR a couple years after that last scare in 2012 too, after prices stabilized. I'd wager most buyers that time already were gun owners and just wanted to get one or 10 more guns while they felt they could.

It seems this time the sales are driven by first time buyers wanting to protect their stash of hand sanitizer and TP, fearing TEOTWAWKI.

The market responds to the demand whether it is justified or not. And reloading supplies are beginning to dwindle. Primers are getting hard to find again. Powder not so much--yet. It just proves that the prudent thing to do is to continue to buy in good times and keep a moderate amount on hand to weather the crazy market conditions. I have no doubt that social media drives the shortages.

I thought I was being smart "buying in good times". I spent the winter stocking up on powder and primers and have enough to last me several years. But I was waiting until my yearly bonus check in late March to stock up on bullets. Doh!!
