I remember reading somewhere that I can't find now that the best weight bullet through this gun (with microgroove) is a 275 grain bullet.

A friend just assembled some 276 grain sabbotted (sp?) hard cast bullets for me to load.

Questions:
1. Is this 275 grain bullet a correct memory for me, or am I just dreaming? Most factory I've noticed are 225 with heavier a possibility for handloading, but whoever it was reasoned because of the fast spin of the microgroove it couldn't take heavier bullets (like some other guns can).
2. I'm using H110. What is the min/max loads for an effective hunting round with this weight in this gun?

Thanks a lot for your input.

300gr is considered maximum for the twist rate. Which is fine because the action won't cycle the long heavyweights.

1:38 twist on the .44 mags. 275g is right at about ideal weight, I've gone up to 310g, pushed hard with H110/W296, and it shoots fine but feeding is a little sticky, just like CraigC mentioned. I'm not real sure about the sabot thing. Not real sure I see much benefit from a .40/.41 cal at few more fps from a sabot. For my money, I'd just go 275g, gas checked, hard cast, at .432 if you can find them.

Sorry guys,
I re-posted this in the hand loading section because I wasn't getting any responses here. I realized it was in the wrong section. Thanks for comments though.
Yes, and I wrote it wrong in this post and corrected it in the other post.
I'm brand new to this loading thing and I still haven't been able to get together with my friend to do it. Unfortunately, he's into trying all kinds of different things and I just need to learn the ABC's first...

Slightly OT ... well not concerning the reloading of .44Mag for the Marlin ...

In the late '80s I acquired a Marlin 1894 and added a Williams aperture sight. I ended up firing quite a bit of the inexpensive ($12-$14) White Box and American Eagle 240gr JHP(JSP? On that point I would have to check downstairs as i cannot recall) factory-rolled rounds thru the thing and was always a little surprised at the accuracy of the combination.

I remember doing a quick test of the sights once after doing some work on the rifle and just before walking over to the farm on Groundhog Patrol ... I affixed a self-adhesive blaze-orange 2" round spot to a big maple tree at the end of the drainfield and using the corner of the house to steady, I carefully squeezed off 2 rounds at the spot ... both shots hit the spot. I later measured the distance at 115 yards.

Ahhhh ... if only I still had those eyes ... :)

Please see the post in the handloader section. I added the explanation my friend gave about 'hardcast' bullets. I still want to know opinions on whether that will be a good weight out of this gun and how much powder you'd put behind it!

Thanks again!
