I've decided to pick up a Marlin 1984 lever in .357 but am having trouble finding one in stock anywhere. I've pretty much ruled out the Cowboy model, and was hoping to find a new 1894C for ~$450. Big 5 Sporting Goods has the Marlins in stock for $465 + tax, but they've got a hardwood stock and I hear the barreling is microgroove, as opposed to Ballard. I don't know much about rifling, but I'm assuming it's a downgrade?
This seems like a steep price for what I have to admit is a pretty drab looking rifle. If the non-walnut was cheaper, I'd buy it, but from what I've read I think I can do better. Does anybody know of reliable online retailers that I could ship to a FFL?
