My sister has a Marlin 30-30 and I am looking for info on this gun. It says Model 93 on it, has "Marlin Safety" on the top of the receiver, and the numbers 1948 under the lever. it is not in fantastic shape, as I believe it was granpa's deer rifle which got used hard. Is the 1948 a year, or a serial number? Any info you can give me on this gun would be great, we are both curious.

The book i got says it was introduced in 1893 and discontinued in 1935 so that 1948 on the rifle may be the serial number.

The 93 Marlin is the pre-cursor to the model 336. The 1948 under the lever is the serial number. This would make this an extremely early production gun. Many collectors would find it interesting for that reason alone.

If you are thinking of selling it, get several estimates of value first.

IMHO the 93 Marlin is what the 94 Winchester wishes it was.

Given that that Marlin 1893 cost 12.75 new, and yours has been used,
I will offer you a generous ten bucks for it.

I don't think we would sell it, but her husband went and tried to shoot it (I was unaware of his plans) but he found out the firing pin is broken and/or missing. So I told him we have a Win 94 to shoot, leave this thing alone. I looked in a Blue Book, unfortunately this thing is in 60 or 70 percent condition. Carl N. Brown, thanks for the image, that is neat. and no I will not take 10 bucks for it, ha ha.
