Do any of you folks own the new Marlin XL7 bolt gun? I have read some positive reviews in the gun rags, but you know how that goes...What I am looking for is some real-world reveiws by actual owners. Most "economy" models I have examined are somewhat cheesey and I guess that explains the price. For around $300 what do you get with that new Marlin? Thanks...

I've got no personal experience with them but I've read personal reviews before and they have all been great. Maybe check out Huntingnet.com they have forums and I think that's where I've read some of the reviews.

One of my friend's employee's has one---seems to be a good rifle.

He got it on sale for $269($279?? not sure) and mounted a Leupold VX-II---so pretty much $500 for the combo.

They adjusted the trigger down to like 2.5lbs and the barrel uses the Savage system which is generally accepted as being very accurate.

They are in South Dakota--so not up on all the particulars and the rifle just came up in discussions with my friend---but he always said it was good rifle---and this is coming from a guy who only has custom made hunting rifles.

Off topic: The guy working for him still lives with his folks and went and bought an AR---his mom won't let him keep "that" rifle in the house--seems that only goes for the AR--the rest are at home.

So what do I see when I walked in the office of his business last time I was there--the poor orphan homeless AR leaned against the wall---which I thought was kinda funny--but thats probably just me.

I bought one (a .30-06) for my son last year. Developed a load that prints roughly 3/4" 5 shot groups off sand bags at 100 yards. I'd like to get an XS7 in 7mm-08, if I could find one.
