Had a great time today fellas....It's always a pleasure getting together with such a diverse group with a common interest.

Look here for P95's pix!

I had a fun time! It was great seeing you all again and meeting some for the first time. Still pondering the USP9...Thanks, Norton for letting me try it out again.
We'll have to plan to do this again real soon and also maybe meet up for dinner and drinks or something on a non-shoot day so we can sit around and talk about our guns. :neener:

Well, great session :) .... long trip to go but good to see everyone ..... several not for the first time. We lucked out on weather too ... very pleasant. The expected rain tho made its appearance very kindly on my way home .. hate night driving in wet!!

Having looked at the group pic (below) .. I realize that in fact I cannot I/D about four people. I guess they were at the other end but I am sorry I did not greet them properly ... so much to do and of course only really so much time to do it in! Apolagies to them .... it was remiss of me. I hope you other guys will help add the necessary ID info and correct any of my errors too.

So - first pic ... Norton, Spot and I shared lane #8 .. and managed to check out quite a lot. Here Norton was trying my L1A1... we had to compensate with sighting because it has a special rear sight but it's a FAL one, and it shoots low ... and other not yet received.

Norton and Spot again .... putting some 9mm's thru my PC9 . We all agree, it is a sweet shooter .. I added the red dot not too long ago and it's only a cheapie but ... that thing groups very well.

Soloman Short put some old .303 ammo thru this MkV Jungle carbine of mine .... tended to get slight hangfires now and again but ... it shoots quite well.... good fun gun. Here, he is struggling with the mag catch ... not helped by gloves!!

RiffRaff (think I have that right!) is our newest THR member ... and was next to us on lane #9 .... he tried out my Hakim ... and apart from the rather ammoniacal stench of the old Turk ammo ... I think enjoyed it!! :p

And finally .... the group for the day ... now as I said I screwed up not having properly met a few .. again sorry . I will add ''?'' for them and hope others will fill the gaps please. So we have from back row left to right ....

Norton, Spot77 (''?'', tho we did speak, he came with SlimJim), then LeadPumper, RiffRaff, ''?'', Anapex, ''?'' and SlimJim.

Front row - Chaim, Soloman Short, Girlwithagun (Mrs Anapex) and finally .. yeah .. had to sneak in didn't I ... self! Oldest person there (groan). :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So - thx guys .. most enjoyable .... sorry I cluttered up the table with so much gear!!
Hope we'll do it again sometime but now summer gets nearer I expect it'll be later in the year next time . Too much biking and model flying to do ..... as well as shooting locally. Oh, and fit in some work - somewhere!!
That was me
the dark guy in the back is me: K-Romulus!
I actually didn't come with SlimJim, but the other unknown guy in the back is the newbie who cam with RiffRaff.
It was great meeting everyone!!
Damn, sorry that I could not make it, I said that I would.
With the weather breaking, All of the sudden I got calls for all kinds of work. I had to get some estimates done.
Also at five I had dinner planes for my Mom's 70th birthday.
I would like if you all set up another day for all to meet. I belong to the range so if anyone would like to meet me up their some afternoon I would be up for that.
I have to sight in a muzzle Loader and I have some reloads for another couple of rifles to check out.
My e-mail is [email protected]
Take care Erik
Just got back from the wife's recital (which was quite good I must say:p ).....
Had a great time today lady and gents.....a perfect day of shooting and friendship.
It turned out to be an especially good day since I ended up coming home with Chaim's Hi-Point carbine.....what a fun little plinker.
What I learned today:
•I will NOT be buying any handgun's in .454 casull....ouch!
•I like my SKS...a lot...
•I'm glad I didn't get that AR180B yet....I'll wait for LeadPumper to figure out that gas port thing
•I can't wait to get my Garand :cool:
•P95 is the man! Just when I think I've seen all of his toys...there's more!
•After looking at those pictures of me shooting P95's guns......dang I'm huge compared to those things!
Very cool that we are all so willing to lend our guns and ammo so that we can all try out as many things as possible. Looks like we end up costing each other money since we shoot something and decide that we must have one (Chaim: let us know how the search for the CZ452 goes:p )
Have a great week all...I may be at the hearing late on Tuesday in Annapolis.
I learned that hi points are quite accurate. And that the sks, is a pretty good accurate rifle, not like my ar, but its good for 100 yard shots.
Sorry I was late getting there, once there I had a blast (pun intended).
Norton, I love that CZ 452. I figured I'd like CZ rifles since I like their pistols so much, but I had no idea it would be half as nice as it is. As soon as I get a new job I'm putting my Remington 581-S up for sale and replacing it with a CZ 452 (either a trainer like yours, or maybe the Lux). Very smooth action, accurate, nice wood (and that is the trainer which is supposed to have cheaper wood- maybe someone mislabeled yours), nice workmanship- I have to wonder if CZ rifles are even better than their pistols. Also, I hope you like your Hi-point Carbine. It can be a fun gun, it is reliable and accurate, but I never enjoyed it that much so I rarely shot it. I hope you can give it the attention it deserves (it is too good a gun to sit in storage all the time).
It was great seeing some of you again, and meeting others of you for the first time. If we can keep the interest up I'm wondering if we should make it a more frequent thing. Maybe the first or last Sunday of every month? And yes, I'm up for meeting with people at some time for a purely social event (though since I keep kosher and there aren't that many kosher restaraunts around, my vote would be a bar and beer instead of a restaraunt and food- unless you guys wouldn't mind going to a kosher restaraunt in the Pikesville area). I hope to be in Annapolis this week so unless I get a last minute job interview I'll see some of you soon.
This range seems to be more conducive to conversation than the indoor ranges we've tried before. Especially since they are putting in the pistol range (did you guys notice it there near the porta-potty) I'm thinking that while the weather is nice maybe we should do all our shoots there. What do you guys think?
Oh, as for the picture...I have heard from some of my friends on PM after the last one asking where my yarmulke was...this time it seems to have disappeared in the picture as well. I was indeed wearing a yarmulke. I am an Orthodox Jew and always wear one. Just for some reason it never seems to show in frontal pictures- it just disappears behind my hairstyle. The others there can attest to the fact that I had it. :D
Hmm, I was thinking (dangerous, I know:evil: )...
I was wondering if we should check with Oleg to be sure it would be ok to use the "thehighroad.org" trademark (see upper left corner of the screen) and have pins made up with it on them.
It would serve as advertising/outreach for THR. The RO seemed to be interested in the fact that near the end of the shooting day 3/4 of his customers left their guns on the firing line and went outside for a group photo. Did anyone invite him to come over to THR?
It would be an identifier for new people coming to shoots to know who was part of THR. There were people there I didn't know were part of our group, and presumably they didn't know I was. If there were ID pins we'd have recognized each other and might have struck up a converstation.
Also, many of us were at the state Senate hearing for SB288, and many plan to be at the House hearings this week. Many people there have pins IDing the groups they belong to. Having some THR pins to wear to those events in the future might be nice.
What do you all think? If enough think it is a good idea, I'll first check with Oleg to be sure it is ok and then I'll look into how much it would cost to print up 25-50 of the things.
Chaim,
I think that Hi-Point is an underrated firearm....any gun that can put 9 bullets into one whole at 25 yards can't be all bad. The quote of the day regarding that gun has to be from RiffRaff...."that thing looks like Han Solo's gun in Star Wars.":D
I'd also be in favor of having some buttons made up. I know Nico was there when we got there....but I didn't know it until they were leaving.
I'd be up for some social get togethers as an interlude between our shoots....beer is always good to me....there's plenty of places we could visit up in the Ellicott City area which seems to be pretty much a central location for everyone.
The CZ 452 is $219.00 over at On Target.....I like it a lot....I think I'm going to keep it with open sites and get really good with it like that.....
I want to start by thanking everyone at the shoot. As a newbie it was sheer luck I stumbled on THR right before this shoot. Luckier still to be in a lane right next to P95, Norton and Spot.
Here I was on my lane with my neighbor Jason (I think he picked up a new hobby, he's also the unidentified big guy in the back row of the group pic), a Bushmaster, a Model 700, a Ruger .22 and about a thousand rounds. I'm looking around and enjoying myself when these guys get on the lane next to me, P95 comes in a with a handtruck of ammo, literaly a hand truck loaded to the top. Never seen anything like it in my life. Way cool, and I definitely like that 9mm carbine...
Thanks for a great time all! I can't wait for the next one!
You can fill me in as the "?" between Anapex and SlimJim.
I agree, either THR pins or a "Molon Labe" sign would make it easier to pick out board members at shoots. Had a great time, looking forward to the next one!
Only bad part of the day was leaving.
And the fact that I MUST have a Ruger PC9 now....:fire:
I guess I'll start a new thread in about a month or so for the next get-together....It seems like it takes about a month to organize.....so plan on another hoo-ha in about two months.....Maybe we'll do the next one at On Target since several of us are members (which gets guests in for half price) and we can shoot boatloads of handguns at reasonable distances instead of the minimum 25 yeards at Westminster......The RO didn't seem too confident that the pistol range would be complete anytime soon out there at Hap Baker, but as Chaim said, that will be a great place for a summer bash.
Riffraff- nice to meet you too....glad you enjoyed your new AR. Check some of the legal and political threads here to see how you can help keep that rifle without becoming a criminal. Md is NOT a gun friendly state.
Again, I had a blast!
I would be open to the "once a month" meetups. I got lost on the way there (took me an hour and a half), but it is only 45min back to my house.
Since I decided I liked the Savage better than the 700 or the Nova, I'll need a place to shoot it!
Pins sound good, too.
I'll be there in Annapolis both days this week (I convinced my boss) . . .
Calanctus ... thx for the ''self I/D'' .... I must endevor to remember .. and again humble apolagies for not having at least shaken your hand.
I too like the pin idea .. but I get the impression that Oleg is in process of making up a new THR logo .. tho for me .. the current one is fine and seems no need to change really.
Maybe not too far ahead this can be done .. whether a pin or even (and/or) t-shirt. Correia is taking orders up to March 18 for Molon Labe caps .. these are at least part the ways toward helping with I/D at the range ... but better still one day would be caps, pins, t-shirts .... all with a logo.
reasonable distances instead of the minimum 25 yeards at Westminster
What's wrong with 25 yds?? :D (J/K) :D
Take care y'all.
What's wrong with 25 yds?? (J/K)
Heh, heh...with that Contender thing at 50 yards I can see why you wouldn't find it a problem....those were some mighty fine groups out there.
Well as I look at the picture of the whole group I realized that between Spot77, Calanctus and me we've got 3/5ths of the THR basketball team covered:D
Yep great day yesterday and my shoulder isn't even bruised! :)
You know for as much as it was borrowed I'm surprised only one person mentioned my Garand :eek: I still need to get it to stop shooting high and left.
I wish I had tried out a few more of the guns Chris had with him although the jungle carbine I tried was a blast, even though I was jumpy with it. The Hakim and the PC9 looked interesting and I wish I had tried those. A question about the Hakim though, how similar is it to a G41?
All in all a good day though, especially since the wife finally tried something a little larger then a .22! You just gotta love that 30 Carbine :)
A question about the Hakim though, how similar is it to a G41?
I'll be honest ... I know very little about the G41 ... someone else can maybe fill some gaps.
The Hakim tho is pretty much ''one-of-a-kind'' .... and is almost a copy (or based on) the Swedish Ljungman. It is 10 1/2 lbs of almost over-engineered rifle! It also has some novel features. Shooting the Turk ammo, that weight is well useful in helping soak up some energy!!
Glad to have been able to meet you at last and that delightful lady of yours.:)
I think we'd have a different definition of "shooting hoops" than most people...
If the next shoot is at On Target, I have a membership. More than willing to meet up there anytime.
Newbie
Hey Guys,
I had a great time meeting everyone and spending some ammo. I was the guy with RiffRaff. My name is Jason and I just joined the board. It was nice to meet everyone and I look forward to the next time. I heard something about possibly having a pistol shoot soon. I would love to take part. I'll keep checking back.
1BadRam .... hey Jason ... welcome to THR!! :)
So yesterdays shoot got you ''fired up'' enough to join eh!? :D Hope you enjoy . Lots to read up on and .. chip in with some posts. The group pic ''?'' is now answered .. sorry I didn't manage a proper I/D straight off.
