Far be it from me to ignore the band wagon...

If anyone from the North Shore area of Massachusetts would like to get together for a day at the range, I would be happy to host it. I have a land use permit for the Martin Burns Wildlife Management area in Byfield. The cost would be zero. There is a 35 yard pistol/rifle range and a ~50 yard shotgun range available.

atk, Mastrogiacomo, et al, you are all welcome. If interested let's figure out a weekend we can all go.

Sounds like fun. Are guests allowed? I've got one other shooter, and at least two non-shooters who I bet I could bring along...

Devonai,

Be careful: those south shore gun nuts are scary! They're... well... they're from the south shore :p .

Non-shooting guests would be fine. However, I'd like to keep the total number of those present under six. There's no restriction on the number of guests I may have, but if other permit holders are present they might not appreciate a crowd.

That being said, we should arrive as early as possible. The range opens one half hour after sunrise. If we want both lanes we need to beat everyone else there. And realistically, if another shooter did show up it would only be polite to offer them one of the lanes (lest it be revealed that only one of us actually has a permit).

Mostly Harmless, you are of course welcome. Byfield is about a 45 minute drive from Boston, so if you're willing to do the driving please do.

It would also be best if we could park at a nearby lot and carpool. Parking on the WMA is limited. Byfield seems to be the kind of town where nobody would blink to see us consolidating our gun cases.

The shotgun range, by the way, is only useful for clays unless you bring your own target stand. The pistol/rifle range has resident stands, so we only need targets. Practically speaking, there is room for a third lane, but there are not target stands there. We use the third lane for shooting at cans or markers set on the backstop. We can only make use of this lane if there are no other shooters present.

So, I'd like to propose this Saturday at 8:00am. I'll probably be there whether or not any of you folks can make it. If there are others that cannot make it, let's look to the following weekends to set a date.

It does need to be before October 15, when the range closes for the winter.

Love to, but I'm booked up for the next several weekends. Can I get a raincheck?

Okay, we'll try again for a later date. I will be going this weekend, so if anybody else can still make it let me know. I'll move the time to 10:00am since we won't likely need both lanes.

Help me out here.

I've lived in MA over 40 years (Metro west) and I've never even heard of Byfield.
Is it a village, part of another town? Where the heck is it?

I'm not sure yet. There's some sort of retired veteran's meeting down at the National Guard Museum in Worcester that day, and I was requested to help with security for the event. There are plenty of other state guard guys in that area, but so far we haven't been able to get enough solid answers. I volunteered as a second stringer so I may have to go. I'll keep you posted.

...don't feel bad. I've never heard of it either. Hey atk - I just
got your msg the other day (I think you sent it in June:what: I'm still
getting the hang of this site). How long have you been @ HHRG?

-Phil

so, has anything happened?

Hey,

I didn't hear anything further about the 6th. Did anything happen? Are y'all still interested? Do you want to try for the 27th?

The 27th should work fine for me, but I can't be sure right now. I am moving within the next month, but I don't know exactly when. It depends on how fast I can find a new apartment.
