Mexico is also one of the few countries that constitutionally guarantees the right of its citizens to bear arms for self defense. See article 10 of the Mexican constitution.

Article 10 from the 1857 Constitution.

The inhabitants of the United Mexican States have the right to possess arms within their domicile, for their safety and legitimate defense, except those forbidden by Federal Law and those reserved for the exclusive use of the Army, Militia, Air Force and National Guard.
Later added
Federal law shall provide in what cases, conditions, under what requirements and in which places inhabitants shall be authorized to bear arms.

"Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot rejects claims gun control has failed her city and instead blames states without as many gun laws."

Typical retort given by knee-jerk antigun liberals when told their utopian anti gun policies have failed everywhere and every time they're tried. They have to do this; there is no other possible response other than admit they are wrong.
But they can't do that since their goal is a disarmed citizenry.

Sorta reminds me of something Albert Einstein said; "the definition of insanity is to try the same thing over and over again, expecting different results."
Well .... liberals aren't insane. Another european, Charles DeGaulle, said "politicians pretend to be the servants in order to become the masters."
Today's liberals are the prime example of DeGaulle's maxim.

Sounds like person who has had five failed marriages and always blames it on the other person why the marriage failed.

You think Mexico is bad? The District of Columbia has no gun stores, and only one FFL dealer, Charles Sykes, who is willing to handle transfers. He operates out of Metropolitan Police headquarters, because he wasn't able to find suitably-zoned premises anywhere else in the city. He carries no inventory.

D.C. is probably the unfriendliest place for guns in the entire country. (Yet, some years ago, I was able to bring a live M60 machine gun into the city with the written approval of both the ATF and the MPD. Go figure.) (I did have an FFL and SOT at the time.)

Yep! Typical MO:

A woman in a hot air balloon drifting slowly, realizes she is lost. She lowers her altitude and spots a man fishing from a boat below. She shouts to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet her an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consults his portable GPS and replies, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

The woman rolls her eyes and says, "You must be a conservative!" "I am," replies the man. "How did you know?" "Well," answers the balloonist, "everything you tell me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you're not much help to me."

The man smiles and responds, "You must be a progressive." "I am, replies the balloonist. "How did you know?" "Well," says the man, "You don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and now you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."

True story, honest!

If may speculate, I’d bet DC has thousands of people legally carrying guns. The politicians don’t have a problem with guns at all, they intentionally surround themselves with them. It’s the “civilian” part they have the problem with, which tells me about all I need to know about them.

IMO, they can shut up, or lead by example.
Do as I say, not as I do doesn’t cut it for me.

Anyway, getting off topic, I’ll shut up now.

There are two "layers" of people in D.C. that have guns -- the "cream" at the top that bends the rules for its benefit, and the "dregs" on the bottom that ignores the rules altogether. It's the law-abiding middle that gets squeezed. I suspect that it's exactly the same in Mexico.

From the article:

“Mexico has top-down gun control. The country has universal background checks and one gun store, and CBS News reports the store is the “one place in all of Mexico where you can legally buy a gun.” Despite these things, Mexico witnesses 94 firearm homicides a daycompared with the 30 to 33 firearm homicides daily in the U.S.”
It wasn't that long ago when our DOJ would sell the Mexican cartels all the automatic weapons they could use.
Just sayin':scrutiny:

In the late 80's and early 90's I worked for a private security company providing armed and unarmed security guards to private, state and federal entities. We were working up a bid for a contract to provide services to the American embassy and 7 or 8 satellite offices in Mexico. I was working with a Mexican national that was a retired Major from the Mexican army. He had been on the Mexican president's security detail during the last few years of his military career. At that time he was the operations manager for a Mexican security company. He carried a 1911 which surprised me as I had heard that it was nearly impossible to obtain a concealed carry permit. He told me that because he was a retired army officer and had been on the president's security detail he received special consideration for a carry permit. He admitted that the average person couldn't get a permit, only the people who were connected or held certain high positions were able to do so.

Yes, Heinrich Himmler summed up that philosophy rather well:
“Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA -- ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State.”

― Heinrich Himmler

I always love comparing and contrasting Phoenix, with the best firearms freedom laws in the country, with Chicago, with some of the worst. Phoenix has .60 population of Chicago, (1,644,177 to 2706171), and less than a quarter the murder rate, 157 to 653, respectively. The rest of AZ has the exact same laws so the "surrounding communities" BS doesn't fly either. Try again Chicago, the wind in the Windy City is spewing from her cheeks.
