Meyerco Knives ???

A catalog I received in the mail has a selection of about 6 Meyerco knives -- all at good price points.

I have never heard of Meyerco (I have carried a Sypderco for about a year) but based on the pictices alone, they appear to be really nice.

My question:

Any opinions (pro or con) on Meyerco knives?

Are they good quality?

Which website has the best Meyerco prices?

Good knives (Meyerco is a large commercial kitchen knife manufacturer) made off shore. The quality is good and they were the first assisted openers.

really? I just heard of them a couple months ago, and I look at them as very low-quality. This is what I think of anything in a "Bud K" catalog.

If they can make good kitchen knives, then they are worth a look. Kitchen knives get used on a daily basis, Ninjadeathmongerstabbomattic 2003's generally get fondled a lot and not much else. So, if Myerco can produce a good knife that will hold up to daily use cutting, chopping, boning, slicing, and all the other tasks and misuses that kitchen cutlery has to handle, they are already on top of the game.

I have the Tanto style by Blackie from Meyerco. It was a gift from my Bro. I thought I would use it as a beater knife and now it goes everywhere with me. It came razor sharp and after a few openings it as smooth as glass! I say get one if its cheap.

We sell a alot of them, they are not the best knife around of course. But for the money they are good knives that are good workers. We have sold lots and never had one returned(knock on wood). Paul

I realize that this is a really old topic but I need to comment.

I used to carry a Benchmade Auto. I'm currently in the Army so we are authorized to carry auto's and have them issued. I've also been issued Gerber (the best I can say is -meh). Anyway, my Benchmade was destroyed (long story) in Afganistan and I needed a new blade. A friend of mine was pretty high up the supply chain and he took pity on me and gave me a couple of Meyerco's.

I had a friend in highschool that sold Meyerco and my impression was that they were decent knives and I knew they had a "utility line" but that's all I knew of the company.

Back on track: Absolutely great knife.

Good: The moondust in AFG clogs everything in country except evidently the action on Meyerco knives. The comment that they come razor sharp is absolutely true. I have the Tanto design (prefered blade design for what I use it for) and the grip is solid, fits the hand well and you can change the belt clip from a "hinge-up to down" config. Also the belt clip doesn't cut up your hand when you have to reef on something like the Gerber. It's made in the USA.


Bad: Haven't found it.

With the participation of Blackie Collins (RIP), Randal King, and Darryl Ralph and a real desire by the Meyerco management to get into the military/recreational knife market I've see a huge jump in design and manufacturing quality.

I have an original Meyerco Rascal w/ stud. Actually, it is my 3rd as I keep replacing lost ones. It is my daily carry and I'd call it perfect. Light, tenaciously holds an edge, and..... extremely well made. Unfortunately, Meyerco "improved" the design and the new version is no as functional IMO. This one is like mine -

I like some of there fixed blades like the wharning and necklance. I have had mixed results with the folders. A lot if their new stuff seems to be getting much better in terms of quality and design.

I have a Meyerco copy of the Gerber Bolt Action. Excellent knife, takes and holds a good edge and I've used it off and on for years and its a Blacky Collins design.

Since Blackie patented that knife in the first place I'd say that you have a Meyerco Blackie Collins similar to the Gerber Blackie Collins.
