I was wonder how many of you are using the military pulldown bullets. I was thinking of picking up some .223 for my AR and Rem. 700, until a guy at the local shop stated that using the pulldown bullets would ruin my barrel. He stated that any marks on the bullets from the pulling process will kill the barrel. I’ve seen some and there are pull marks where the machine grabbed the bullets.

Will this scratch and damage the barrel? Or will they be fine?

Thanks
Rob

BS. He just wants to sell you new bullets.

The only problem you will encounter with pull marks is possibly a loss of accuracy. But places like GI Brass pull the bullets with a collet method which leaves no marks.

check out Hi tech ammunition out of MO they have military pulls of the highest quality and they even have the SS109 62gr FMJBT

That is BS! You got a FMJ bullet that is .224 in dia that is going to squeezed down a bore that has or should have a max dia of .223, And a scratch or nick in the jacket is going to ruin the bore?-I don't think so- Only if that scratch or nick has some thing abrasive in it then that would over time hurt the bore. The only down side from blemished bullets is your accuarrcy will not be the greatest, But they will make great plinking or blasting ammo.

Thanks guys. That is what I figured...that they were smoking some pretty bad crack.

I'm placing an order tomorrow.

Thanks
Rob

Some places resize their pulls before selling them to you. And, if you are still wondering if they are the right size and round, you can get a sizing die setup from CH that will make them perfect.

The 50 BMG pulls that I shoot show marks and some go through the .5095 die easily while some take some force and show that the pull indents were ironed down by the die. It might be interesting to try some sized and unsized to see if it really makes any measureable difference.

i've been shooting thousands of hi-tech's pulldowns in 223. no problems. your friend is smoking crack.
