Over on the coltforum, one of the pards had a story from the 1960s of how one of his older fellow employees brought an old rusty relic revolver to lunch to show everyone and get an idea of what it might be. The older fellow owned a ranch in the Hill country near Fredricksburg and found it while walking the property. The coltforum pard knew his guns and examined it. As the story goes, it was #5 Paterson with no loading lever, at full cock, trigger extended, with several chambers still loaded. Believe or not....Perhaps lost by one of Jack Hays's Rangers in some unknown engagement with the Comanche? Quien sabe?

The auction is still up but has been disabled also the lister has had his account suspended. Makes you wonder what gets into people. Really surprises me that a couple of people were foolish enough to bid on it.

You should see some of the stuff that shows up on the coltforum posted by folks that find ancient Colts in online auctions. Most are deemed fakes.
