Most guns you can look up the specs for a few critical parts and get the numbers. I can buy a mini barrel for basically nothing and am considering buying it to use for a barrel blank to make a 22 barrel or three, but curiosity has me wanting to know what the barrel threads are so I could potentially just thread a receiver and screw the barrel in.

Well if it's a .22 rimfire, you are going to have to cut off the threaded part while shortening the breech end to remove the chamber anyway, so it's irrelevant. Just tread it anyway you want. If you want to retain the chamber for some reason then just use a micrometer and thread pitch gage to check the barrel before you make the receiver.

With a .223 barrel I could potentially make a fully functional rifle and use it as 223, or use a chamber insert for 22mag or 22lr. If I’m buying a barrel rather than a blank I want to use all that I can of what’s already there. Otherwise I agree...chop, thread, crown, install, chamber, shoot.

Be better off to buy .22 rimfire liners, blanks or take-offs. They're cheap and readily available. Appropriate twist rate, and appropriate bore size (.221"-.222" instead of .224" for centerfires).

People frequently report poor accuracy with running .22 LR through centerfire barrels using adapters, maybe attributable to twist rate but more likely the loose fit in the .224" bore with .2225" bullets.
