Troy CBIR mags are at least as awesome, cost $12.50 regularly and were $8.99 for Black Friday.

Other awesome choices include Magpul Pmags, Lancer (all versions) and the elusive gen2 Tangodown mag.

I've sipped enough TAPCO kool-aid in the last few years to know it's time to stop sipping more. I don't doubt that their gen2 is improved and probably quite decent, but I'm tired of taking risks when other companies get stuff fully right, usually the first time.

All excellent choices for ARs.

But not Mini-14s. Which is what this thread is about.

Sorry, I did miss the Mini-14 detail. I had heard about the Gen2 TAPCO AR mags.

FWIW, I have Gen-1 TAPCO mags for both the AR and Mini-14. I've found the Mini-14 ones to be fine in limited testing. The AR mags have been pretty bad.

So far, I'm still stickin' with Ruger mags

Yeah, I guess it's easy to "miss a detail" when it's in the title of the thread!!!

Before I ever bought my Mini-14, all the research I did indicated that the only reliable mags were Ruger factory mags. So that's all I have, and I've not yet heard enough to convince me otherwise.

Re: Gen 2 mags for a Mini-14, received via email this morning (12/05/11):

We started shipping them out last week. I know we sent some to Brownells and Cheaper Than Dirt.
