Sorry if this topic has been poster befor..

i have a firearm that when its fired the primer is not ignited the first shot, and leaves a light indent in the primer (the gun is old.. mabe 30+) and i am pretty sure that its the gun not "tuff" primers but its just a guess. how could i fix this problem?, is there a way i can fix the gun myself or would i need to bring it to a gunsmith?.

By the way the gun fires the cartriges the second time around.. and most of the time it only misfires after the first shot has been discharged, second round in the magizine misfires.. and if its any help the ammuntion is winchester 71 grain FMJ .32 acp

What kind of .32 ACP pistol is it?

That kind of info might help get your question answered a little more better.

The gun is a Dreyse .32 ACP, made somwhere in the range of 1907-1914, so yes its an old gun, but its in excellent condition, passed on to me by my grandfather. The gun has not been fired much, under 100 rounds. purchased somwhere around 1950 i believe.

Clean it, if that doesn't work, replace the hammer spring, it's the most likely culprit and is inexpensive to replace.

I suspect a weak recoil spring or obstruction that is not letting the cartridge fully chamber, or a dirty, rusty chamber that isn't allowing the cartridge to fully chamber.

Ok i carfully striped the gun down (thanks to rcmodel for the link) and its actually in vary good condition, the striker spring was alittle weak so i streched it out a bit to bet more of a snap, which should help with harder primers that i have been expierencing, all in all the gun is in vary well condition, the blueing is in vary good condition and all the internal parts seem to be in good working order. The magizines lips are a bit bent but i can always buy a new magizine for it. The barrel dosent have really any pitting in it just a few spots here and there which should be easy to remove with a good .32 barrel brush. Im starting to think that its the ammuniton, i read this gun is vary picky on ammo types, so if i ever can pick up some i will see, but i dont think i will be shooting it to oftin. Thanks for the help

Stretching the spring is only a stop-gap measure.
It's won't stay stretched for very long.

Once a spring loses it's set, it's time to get a new one.
