The vast majority of mass shootings never make national news. Mass shootings like Sandy Hook, Columbine and El Paso get extensive nationwide coverage. The vast majority of these high body count mass shootings are accomplished by young white guys. The Las Vegas mass shooter was an older white guy.
Likely all true. There is a deceitful nature in how these stats are presented though. A man loading his hotel room with thousands of rounds of ammunition and firing into a populated area (national news) is very different from a blood opening fire on an opposing clique on the south side of Chicago (local news). There is no distinction made when these stats get spit out and I think since they are trying to legislate our rights away people should call it out at the very least.

I contend that shooting events like el paso, Vegas, sandy hook, etc.. are exceedingly rare in terms of shootings whereas gangland and domestic shootings are fairly typical but not as successful at grabbing headlines but still make it into the same stat pool.

I was more or less speaking to the one part of your post about "we've got to do something" that seems to be a habit of the anti's which is to assign personal responsibility to others for the acts of an individual.

Absolutely, using their logic we would ban sober drivers to stop them from being killed by drunk drivers.

Limit the lawful to save them from the unlawful? Only someone with a .gov email could come up with that.

The are rare and they are rare among mass shootings in general that are rare. I saw one article that broke them down by familial mass shootings, other felony mass shootings, and public mass shootings. Of the three, we react and the media reacts most to public mass shootings that are usually the rarest of the three. Familial mass shootings are usually the most common, but flip flops with other felony mass shootings. Other felony mass shootings are events such as the PA warrant service where 6 cops were shot, your gang mass shooting, etc. For most folks who aren't in gang land aren't going to be terribly influenced by other felony mass shootings. If we are going to be in a mass shooting, chances are it will be by a family member, more so than being at Walmart, school, or a workplace shooting.

We have repeated threads on things like preparing for a public mass shooting or whether or not folks change their EDC because of public mass shootings, but nobody discusses their EDC or home carry mass shooting options for when a family member goes off the deep end and tries to shoot the entire family. Nobody wants to talk about that or really even acknowledge that it is a real threat...if you think mass shootings are a threat.

Similarly, folks don't want to given much consideration to the fact that if they are murdered, it is going to be by someone they know and chances are that will be a family member as well. https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/fvs03.pdf
