My MK40 was ordered with the optional smooth wood grips. I recently decided to install the included standard plastic grips. It was then I found the buggered threads in one of the screw holes. I need to buy a tap to clean up the threads. With my tools, I was unable to determine the tap size. I called Kahr and understood the gentleman to say it is .150 x 50 Assuming I heard this correctly, can somebody tell me how to obtain the proper tap? Thanks Bill

Having received no responses, I'm assuming some might be interested in what I found out. This rather unusual tap size was used on the old 1911. Fortunately, it is still carried by Brownells, even though a bit spendy compared to the more common taps. In addition they also carry the screws.

Yep its the same diameter and thread as a standard 1911 screw, however its shorter.

I put hex head screws on an MK9 I used to own and the gun smith sold me 1911 ones and told me to grind down the end so they don't protrude into the mag well.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner but I was busy leaping tall buildings elsewhere on the net :neener:
