I am working on getting a copy of the letter posted here.

In short the Sheriff has sent me a letter saying that the "Metro Sheriff's Association consensus is that your current MPPA permit will be valid for 1 year from the date of issue instead of the 5 years that was the law at the time your permit was issued."

Goes on to state that if I want to renew I need to stop by Sheriff's Office.

Where the HECK [first time I have felt like using words to offend Art's Grandma here on THR] does the Sheriff get to decide what the law is????????????

He makes no mention of refunding my money, says he will waive the mandatory $10.00 for renewal.

The last sentance ends "...we will work with the permit holders to make sure your rights are protected during the turmoil."

:fire:
When they are attacking my rights! :cuss:

There is no "mandatory" $10 for him to waive. The law says "not to exceed $10." He's always been free to charge nothing at all.

Which sheriff and county is this?

It is Wright County.

Sheriff Gary L. Miller.

Couple of other points. First if Wright County Government did decide something like this, it should be attorney's office contacting people. Not sheriff.

Also under old law he doesn't have authority to issue me a permit in the first place (police chief of my little town would AFAIK).

As far as I can tell this sheriff is more confused about law in general than he should be.

From the letter it is clear that he hasn't talked to an attorney. For me personally if I did what he said to do, I don't plan to, he would be breaking old law or new law to give me a permit.

Under old law he doesn't have authority to issue ME a permit. Under MPPA (Minnesota Personal PRotection Act) he would be in trouble for messing with my current permit (revoking permit without legal reason, means I could get a lawyer and if I won case his office would have to pay my fees under the MPPA law).

I am trying to get the letter posted here on THR, but the file is to big. I can email it if anyone is interested let me know.

Or if someone has another location that I could put the jpeg on and link from here it would be greatly appreciated.

May I suggest that you send a copy of it to the attorney generals office asking him what he thinks of the sheriff attempting to ignore or circumvent the authority of the attorney generals office .
