Hey everyone,
I've got a Winchester model 100 in .243 that I'm cleaning, and I looked down the barrel and there appeared to be a dark ring near the rear sight. I would take a picture but you know it's impossible to photograph the inside of a barrel. Could there be a... ring... in the barrel? Or could it be a part of the gas system?

Pretty hard to diagnose without actually examining it.

When you run a tight patch down the bore can you feel anything in that area?

How does the rifle shoot?

From what I've read, replacing the barrel on a Winchester M-100 is pretty much impossible without also replacing the receiver.

I'd check the barrel on my old .308 M-100 to see if it has any odd looking areas in the bore near the rear sight, but unfortunately I traded it off a couple months ago to another member here.

But I can't recall anything that looked like a ring in that bore.

This isn't in any way related to your barrel issue, but have you checked the weapon to see if it's had the firing pin recall work done?

Yeah, the firing pin got fixed.

I couldn't really feel anything, but that was just with a cleaning rod, not a patch. Last time it shot there were some accuracy problems, like four to five inches at 100 yards. I'm thinking a gunsmith may have to look at it.
