model 70(post 64) iron sights?

hi, i just bought a beat up post 64 in 3006, and i would like to keep iron sights on it, but the screws for the rear sight adjustment are stripped.

so what is a good sight for this gun? im open to anything that is useable, the original sight was worthless anyway, being halfway down the barrel. I take it the front sight is useable with whatever rear i put on the gun?

Several companies make replacement sights, Williams or look at Brownells.

Not unless you figure out what the replacement rear sight height should be.
They come in a bunch of different heights and you need to do some ciphering to find out what your replacement needs to be to match up with the existing front sight.

Your rifle should be drilled and tapped for a receiver sight(peep sight)on the left side of the receiver just forward of the bolt release lever. A Williams or Lyman receiver sight works very well, I have them on several Post '64 Model 70 Winchesters. Less than 50 bucks and you are in business.
