Model 70 Winchester scope base hole pattern, pre vs post

Does anybody know if scope bases for a post-64 Winchester will fit a pre-64 Winchester Model 70?

A friend has a pre-64 M-70 and wants to put a scope on it.

I know that push feed post-64 and CRF post-64 are the same, how about the pre-64 receiver, will post-64 scope bases fit on it?

SFAIK, they're the same. From having looked at a Weaver chart of bases for various rifles, I don't recall but the one pair of numbers for bases.

Looking at Talley's website they show the hole spacing on the rear base different. Standard calibers and WSM's post 64's show the holes .860" apart. Post 64 magnum rifles were .330". and pre 64's are all .435".

Checked www.midwayusa.com and they show 3 different bases as well.

Interesting. I guess what I looked at on the Weaver chart was just a list of base numbers, rather than specific rifle types.
