I just picked up a "brand new" in the box Model 94 that was made in 1984. The tags are still on it and it was never shot. Problem is that this 94 has the top eject, so I can't mount a regular scope on it.

My question is for those that hunt deer, how many of you actually use a scope with your hunting rifle, specifically model 94?

There is a way to mount a scout scope on it, but I am not sure I really want to anyway. The rifle seems to be so well balanced, that any scope might throw it off.

Thanks!

I think lever guns and peep sights are a natural fit.

A forward mounted "Scout Scope" might also be a possibility.

As mentioned before, peep sights might be the best way for you to go with it. I know a lot of guys that just use the iron sights anyhow and it hasn't hindered them a whole lot.

Depends a lot on where you're hunting.

Out west, I'd think a scope might be worth the trouble. But typical eastern hardwoods, moderate to heavy cover, where the most common shots are between 50 and 100 yards? Peep sights should be fine. In fact, I've intentionally left a scope off of one of my rifles (the one I use for 'brush busting') because I think peep sights allow for faster target acquisition, and when you only see him for a second, speed counts for a lot.

One thing I would suggest though... if you're going to hunt without a scope, having a decent pair of binos where you can get to them quickly (like around your neck) can be a godsend - because when the bushes are thick, sometimes the hardest part can be figuring out which one has the antlers.

Winchester Model 94

Seriously, using it "nekkid" the way John Browning designed it, gives you a fast handling, graceful, purposeful rifle. Quick-handling, accurate and probably the best close range (less than 150 yds) brush or woods-hunting rifle there is. Putting a scope on it is like putting a girdle on a pig...pointless.

That's my opinion, and I'm stuck with it...
