I searched this topic and found a thread on "24hourcampfire" by SMACK that described modifying Magpul magazines to allow 2.345" COAL for (I believe) 6X45.

I'm going to give this a try for my AR15 5.56 and Ruger American Predator .223

Been experimenting with a Hornady bullet comparator so after I become proficient obtaining consistent values, I'll increase COAL.

seems like a bad idea to me. keep in mind your feed ramps. and structurally the mag has much less strength and the feed lips at the top of the mag would likely open up if you cut the front off. that may, interestingly, make it more likely to feed, but it will probably be inconsistent.

looks cool though

6.8spc II guys have been doing this for quite some time, but with metal mags that have more structure to hold the feed lips in place when cutting like you showed.

Actually I think the cover might still work. The back clips to the center but the front has sort of wings that clip on the sides.

Is that mainly for loading different bullets? My 6.8 mags work fine, but I have only used a handful of different ammo types.

Mainly for loading longer bullets to still maintain case capacity. Most bullets it is not an issue, but as one chases BC numbers with longer bullets with the 6.8SPC they start getting into magazine length restrictions. The link below shows a PRI magazine that has been modified to load long. The company that is selling them, makes "cavity back" bullets that are longer but are hollow in the base to allow for higher BC bullets while maintaining case capacity. (I have no affiliation with the company below, just know of their products)
