I have been interested in getting a moly resin coating on my little Makarov done by a local guy. I asked the man who works at the gunshop I go to to ask his gunsmith if he had any experience with this moly resin stuff. He reported that he had not had any direct contact with the stuff, but he did here some negative reports from those who had experience with it.

So, I decided to ask the experts here at THR! Do you have any experience with this type of pistol finish? :)

Had my Mak coated by a "Mac's Shooting Iron Restorations" out of Tucson, AZ. (He can be linked from Makarov.com)

The finish is EXCELLENT for holster durability, and very good on all internal surfaces except the following: barrel where recoil spring rides has chipped and flaked a bit, and area on hammer that impacts on rear of frame on recoil has chipped a bit, too. SInce the underlying surface is parkerized (to insure the adhesion of the molycote), this does not leave a bare steel surface.

I wear the Mak inside the waistband in hot weather, and the molycote has proved impervious to rust and sweat after 2 years. Good stuff!!!
