Well i took my mom to the gun show yesterday, and she actually had a good time. there would be times where i would look behind me and she would be three tables back asking questions about certain things. The guy at the Ohioans for Concealed Carry booth calling Gov. Taft an ******* got her attention. so she politley listened as they explained how taft wants the list of permit holders to be public record. and she quickly blurtted out. "Well that's stupid, sounds like it's endangering those that choose not to carry. Why should anyone be privilaged with that information? Isn't that why it's called concealed." This brought a huge smile to my face. My mom is in no way an anti she is just not into guns. She doesn't mind that people have them she just doesn't want one for herself. So for her to understand this instantly made me happy. Things started to look up she started talking that if they do pass CCW here that she would like one to keep in her purse. So i told her i would take classes with her. It was a great day hanging out with mom. But the kicker of the day was when my mom stopped at a holster booth. Keep in mind my mom looks like everyones kindergarden teacher. I am talking she had the christmas swaeter with turtleneck on. so she seemed a little out of place but her last comment while we were at the show was priceless.

"Hey this holster would match my shoes."

What a great DAY!!!!!!!!

AWESOME.

Are you and your Mom close? What made her interested, or what made you invite her? Sorry if that's too personal, it's just that my mom would NEVER go NEAR a gun show, but I'd like to try and get my wife to go to one with me.

Glad you two had a great time.

yeah my mom and i are really close. we weren't so much in high school, but now i am in college we like each other. i just asked her to go and she said fine. i took her shooting for the first time a couple of weeks ago and she liked it so i will take her again.
now i just need to work on the girlfriend. she went shooting with me once but that's about it. i go shopping with her ALL the time. so i ty to use that as leverage but she says it's not the same. but i will keep trying

Your girlfriend sounds a lot like my wife. She'll go shooting with me, but only because I tell her that its her RESPONSIBILITY to learn how to handle the guns that are in our house.

Although she'll never admit it, I think she likes shooting; she just doesn't like guns (thank you Maryland Liberal Public School Education/Sheeple Indoctrination)

i believe we are definatly in the same boat. i think my gf really enjoyed it as well. but she doesn't like the guns. but she buys me stuff for my guns. so it's good. i don't have the leverage of saying it is her responsibilty to know how to handle the firearms in the house just yet. but hopefully someday.

if you find a way to crack her please share:D

yes please do share
im trying to get my fiance to understand guns
she bought me two so its not all bad :)
black, good job taking your mom to the show
i can see the day when my mom will go to one but i dont know how she will like being around all the scary black rifles
she has shot my brothers .22 bolt action (and quite well i might ad) and she wants to go along with my dad on his next duck hunt (just to look at the ducks, but not shoot any)
the conversion begins!

Now my SO can tell me when the next show is. She is always ready to go. She's had limited experience when growing up and she's like a kid in a candy store at the shows. When she grins from ear to ear and wants me to come look at something the pucker factor kicks in and the checkbook starts crying. She really know how to pick em.

The last gun show I took my Mom to she bought me a new mag carrier and belt and told me "There, now your holster, belt and clip holder match. I was getting sick looking at 3 different shades of brown!" I was just about to correct her and tell her it was a MAGAZINE carrier but stopped myself. I just smiled and said thank you. By the way, my dear sweet mother has carried a concealed weapon for as long as I can remember. She finally got her CHL so now she's legal. Talk about a son being proud of his mother :D . She was drawin' and shootin' like a pro. My mother carries an old S&W 59 9mm. I discussed buying her a new more "updated" weapon like a G19, Sig 226, UPS 9c....ect. Her reply was "Why? What'd you do to my gun now?":scrutiny: I laughed and decided to drop the subject. She is a simple woman......and I love the old broad.

I got to agree wid mom. Why get a new gun, learn it's differences if there is absolutely nothing wrong with the one she has now that she trusts? She is not being simple, it's called being practical. The latest, most up to date model will do no more than a fully reliable older model.

My mother passed away on Dec. 19th last year. There was a loaded Colt .380 Gov't by her bedside to that very day and a Colt Commander .38 Super in the kitchen cupboard as well. When I was about 16, mom took me to Charlie's Sporting Goods in Albuquerque and had them repair the firing pin in an old Lee Enfield that I had been given as a "toy" years before. When I got into Civil War re-enacting, she traded an extra sewing machine for a re-pop rifle musket and gave it to me for my birthday. The lady learned to handle a 45 auto and a 12ga Parker shotgun when she was about 12. She got the light weight Commander in about '66 when my dad was driving over the road. She carried that until her hands got too arthritic to handle the recoil of 38 Super. That's when she got the 380 Gov't. She carried it in an IWB holster. She once said; "They'll have to be damn close to get between me and my gun!"
Last spring, I got a nice S&W Model 27 with the 3.5"bbl. I showed it to her and after looking it over, she turned to my dad an said; "Hey Ben, want to see a sweet little pistol?" Only mom would call an N frame Smith magnum a "sweet little pistol".

Enjoy all the time you can with your parents. Learn their stories and tales so that you can pass them along. Try real hard not to have to say "I wish I had..."

My folks
