I was looking through Armslist late last night and came across a Mosin M38, Matching SN's with an M38, not M44, stock for $200..

I talked him down to $180

M38 on top with my Type53 on bottom (Yea I know, ChiCom sling, but it isnt as stiff as the one it came with. I'll change it out when I get it softened up)

The Bore. Looks really good. It's counterbored, but I am pretty sure most M38 were.

Looks amazing! Congrats!

I've been wanting either an M38 or M44 for years now. Never can find them in great shape though, most of the ones locally and on Gun Broker are beat up. Yours looks nice n' clean though!

Uh-oh. Now there's two. Within a year, there'll be five. A couple more years, and you'll be finding Mosins in closets and under the bed.

The M38 is my favorite Mosin. Handier than the 91/30 or M91, no awkward bayonet at the end as on the M44. Makes great fireballs too. :D

Actually, there's 4.

1939 1891/30
1943 1891/38 (The M38 Carbine for those who dont know)
1954 Chinese Type 53 (Believe it or not, smoothest bolt out of the 4)

I am on the hunt for a good 91/59 that is not way overpriced.

It's the same with my T53 compared to my 91/30s. It also has the smoothest and lightest trigger. It had some of the nastiest furniture I'd ever seen but mechanically well worn in.

after putting about 100 rounds downrange through my M38, it is really feeling good. My shoulder... not so much. it is a bit sore but not bad.
