Mosin Nagant stripper clips?

I had bad luck with the tapco stripper clips, they are apparently new manufacture, I bought 40 clips and maybe 2 were not immpossible to use without serious problems. Just a warning YMMV

I bought a dozen from Tapco a few years back

All of them were a PIA. Hard to load, and impossible to strip. Finally chunked the lot after slicing my finger at the range with one. I have 4 now that I found at the range, have no idea where they came from, that work flawlessly.

I bought some that were *supposed* to be originals but they look a little too nice for that. They were cheap so I got em anyway. Total waste of money! They don`t work at all,the rounds bind up in them making feeding impossible. Looking at the design I can`t imagine for even proper ones could work as well as Mauser strippers. There are actually MN stripper clips out there that work *well*??? Marcus

I just got my M38 yesterday and went looking for them. Found some here:

BigSkySurplus

Never ordered anything from there. Anybody have any experience with them?

I would also check gunbroker.

Type in 7.62x54r stripper clips into google.

Edited for spelling and punctuation.

One thing to look for if they have pictures is the bends in the metal, specifically the part that bends around the rim to hold it. Original stripper clips will have sharp, 90 degree bends while new manufactured ones have a shallower 45 degree bend. It's this that causes the new ones to work so poorly. I'll post a picture or diagram to show what I mean as soon as I can dig one out.

EDIT: OK, like this. Obviously it's not to scale, but you get the idea.;) Although my hasty diagram doesn't depict it, I think the problem on some with the 45 degree ones is that the slope down begins sooner than it does with 90 degrees, and tends to clamp down on the rim to an excessive degree. And on some others, the angle makes the rounds tend to flop around and get misaligned.

I wonder if the 7.62x54R ammo that is still in use by some of the Afgan tribes is loaded in stripper clips that may have the angled sides? As long as you overlap the rim of the cartridge as you load the stripper clips, they should work. A bit of bending at the ends may have to be done to get them snug but that shouldn't be a biggie.
