A few weeks ago I reported here about how my Mossy 500 18.5" smoothbore "security" barrel shot slugs 12-16" high at 50 yards. So I set about figuring out why. The simple answer is this barrel without the rifle sights wasn't intended to shoot them accurately in the first place. But that didn't sit well with me.
After some research and measurements I decided a 6mm airsoft BB would serve two purposes. Raise the front sight height and because it alsoglows in the dark I could actually see it at night. It was hollowed out to sit on the brass bead at the correct height then jbweld did the rest.
Here's the measurement between the barrel and the straight edge. The bead is only .155" the front sight should be arount .275" for shooting slugs at longer ranges.
The Results at 50 yards Holding with bead covering the orange circle (a 6 o-clock hold would most likely put these on the bull)
