Mossberg 500 wont let go of shells!

So i have an old 500 i used for water fowl for years. Wore the thing out. It started not extracting the spent shells anymore and when it did it would kind of, dribble them out. I replaced both extractors and the ejector but now the dang thing wont let go of the shell! I mean, it holds on good even pulling the ejector through the brass. Dont want to take it to a gun smith as they would charge me more than its worth to fix it. Has anyone encountered this? Any ideas to get it to let go? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thx -Paul

I’d try replacing the distractors with extractors.

yes....that would be a bit distracting......

I'd say you probably just need to give the thing a really good cleaning. it sound like you've got a rusted or crudy chamber, and possibly the same in the extractor recesses of your bolt.

I would take it to a gunsmith. I think you will be surprised how little they charge. Find an old experienced one. They see problems so often they can diagnose them quickly & I can not see it costing more than $50. Or option #2 contact Mossberg. They have great customer service.

Any chance you installed the right extractor in the left side of the bolt?

Thx guys i appreciate the suggestions! I ended up taking it apart and cleaning it spotless. That didnt work so i broke her down again and realized the new extractors were just a hair thicker than the originals so they wouldnt pivot back into the grooves on the bolt far enough to let go of the shell. I filed a little off each side and whataya know.. its spittin shells again! I ordered these extractors from Brownells and am not sure if they were genuine mossberg or not. Im gonna take it out this weekend to bust some mearns. Thx again!

From Brownells there were probably factory Mossberg, but Mossberg has a habit of changing specs for no apparent reason. As long as the 500 has been in production there have probably been several small dimension changes.
