Are the costs about the same? Anyone have any points about either they would share? A good place to buy either? I am pretty set on a new 12ga, and had figured on getting a M590A1, but it would aways be a bonus to get something that anti's would dislike even more.
Thanks in advance.

I've been having the same dilemma! I really want a good stock with the pistol grip like a knoxx or something for the Mossberg.

I'm biased to the saiga (own a 12, and two 762x39s). they are extremely reliable, can be highly customized, and relatively cheap.

Right now your problem getting a saiga is supply and demand. Last year they were selling NIB for $439, but because the russians are 6 months behind on shipping, prices have skyrocketed. I got a used one last month for $500, which was a steal. Gunbroker has them for $700, which is a rip. If you are really interested in buying a saiga, I suggest you post a WTB ad here as well as the saiga forums (forum.saiga-12.com). That's the only way you're going to get one for a reasonable price.

If you do go the saiga route, you will be happy. They have 10 round mags available as well as a 20 round drum. You can convert it anyway you choose or pay to have someone else turn it into a beast. there's a plethora of stock options, as well as hand guard and general configurations (everything from ak-74 to sbs to MP5 to you name it). I'm converting mine as soon as the parts arrive and if this thread's still going i'll post pictures.

As for the antis, if there ever is a ban you can be sure the saiga will be listed (already is in some states (CA)).

Sorry I can't help with the mossy, never owned one.

Might want to think out how to use the Mossy safety on the receiver with a pistol grip stock.

It almost involves letting go of the pistol grip, or using two hands.
Course you can say the same thing about the AK safety on a SAIGA.

Regardless, IMO, a trigger guard safety like an 870 works much better and faster with a pistol grip stock.

Mossberg 930SPX

My vote goes to the Mossberg 930SPX, nothing wrong with the Saiga though, they're not in the same price range (around here, at least), Saigas are hard to find and therefore more expensive....

Choate Machine is making a full length pistol grip stock for the Mossberg 930...

I can't have one her in CT, though, because some law makers say that having more than two evil features make it an "assault weapon"....

I had this same dilemma when I bought my shotgun.

I'm glad I bought the Saiga. $419 out the door.

-Actually I can use my index finger on my trigger hand to move the safety without removing it from the PG.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I have decided to take option C, and get a M590. I can still rack a slide Ok, and I want something simple and proven. I would like to get one of each, but I want a single "go to" gun.
The one thing that concerns me about the 930 is that the extended tube seems to be unsupported, although a simple barrel clamp should address this. The Saiga is priced above its value right now, perhaps that will change soon. I do admit that the bayonet lug on the M590 has swayed me a bit. It is evil and should be wonderful to offend sheeple with.
Thanks again.

It's priced above what most other people got their's for, but there's not (IIRC) another shotgun with it's combination of reliability and hi-cap mags.

Haven't used the Mossberg, but I love my saiga. Got it NIB at a gunshow for $500 about a month ago. 10 rounders are hard to come by, I'm still on a waiting list. It is FUN to shoot though, never had any problems at all.
