I was wondering if the mossberg 500 Tactical Crusier 12 Magnum can fire slugs, I've been considering buying the 500 with the breacher on it but I want one that can fire slugs and if I'd have to change the barrel to get one thats rifled that kind of defeats the purpose of paying the extra $ for the breacher.

If the slugs themselves are rifled, it should work okay. I was just reading something recently that recommended using only unrifled slugs in the rifled barrel. (Of course, now I can't find where I read that, to give you a link for it.)

In a few words....

Rifled slugs for smooth barrels/chokes

"Sabot" slugs for rfiled chokes/barrels

"Sabot" slugs are the slugs that are smaller diameter than the shotgun guage would suggest, with a 'plastic' sleeve over the slug. For instance, a 12-Ga non-sabot slug is nominally .72 caliber, while a 'sabot' slug for a 12-Ga is around .50, with the sleeve "sabot" taking up the difference.

Are you planning on killing a lot of doorhinges and latch plates? If not, do you really want the breaching device?

I plan on running alot of sabots through it so I'd like it to have a rifled barrel, as for the taking down doors with it I don't really plan on it but I just think it looks reallly cool.

I just need a rifled barrel because in missouri its illegal to go hunting with a shotgun that doesn't fire slugs and being that I'd like one that fires sabots so rifled barrel seems to be the way to go. just wondering though are the 500 persuaders rifled too?

500 persuaders = not rifled but you can buy one and add it later as long as you do not get the 7 or 8 round model.

A rifled barrel is for sabot slugs but not for buckshot, or pellets.

What do you plan on hunting? With slugs it would be deer, bear, pigs not birds, rabbits, squirrels.

in MO its illigal to shoot a deer with anything that is not center fire, they said slugs and sabots only.
