Just when you thought a PGO was worthless enough, Mossberg has upped the ante:

Mossberg Chainsaw Shotgun-TheFirearmBlog

Envision a Mossberg Cruiser with a [strike]thing that goes up [/strike] horizontal, perpendicular to bore axis, above barrel fore-end  And a Laser!;)

I mean, really? The .50 cal style brake wasn't silly enough?

Again, I know not every gun has to be useful, but this seems borderline childish, if not downright dangerous.

Mossberg seems to recognize that there is a certain segment of the firearms buying market that doesn't seem to have the slightest concern for true practicality but goes for gimmicks, looks, and what (to them at least) is cool. They are in the business of making money and sometimes what makes money is appealing to that crowd (see Taraus Judge).

Mossberg also makes some very practical and solid performers for those looking for something else.

Finally the antis really have something to say is designed to allow one to spray from the hip (note: they still need to formulate a coherent argument that doing so actually makes a gun more dangerous/effect rather than less so).

For the record I wont be buying one if its released, and after the insane muzzle brake shotguns with PGO there is no reason to doubt this might be.

A large portion of firearms owned have little purpose besides recreation. I'm sure there are people out there who would like this and will buy it, for no other purpose then entertainment. I certainly see no reason for this, but somebody probably does.

Cold steel has an entire line of fully functional swords. All sizes and periods. How many people you see fighting with swords these days? These things costs several hundered dollars each and will NEVER get used for anything other than decoration and "Look at this cool sword".

But people buy them. And I'm fine with that.

I personally don't care if someone makes a gun you strap to your forehead that fires when you fart on command. As long as it's legal and they use it safely then I say sell all you want.

Heck, there are millions of regular guns that spend their entire life sitting in a safe never have had more than 100 rounds put them, ever. A couple of crazy looking shelf sitters really isn't that much different.

Dang. I was envisioning a Gears of War-esque shotgun with a chainsaw mounted on the underside.

I'm with Blayglock, I have NEVER been more disappointed in a thread than this one!!

Can someone please make a rail mounted chainsaw already, i mean how does a chainsaw handle on the pump do anything at all? and they have the audacity to call it the mossberg chainsaw?? my foot!!

I wouldnt be too fast in saying that, I dont remember specifics, but a while back I remember hearing about a college kid that almost cut an intruder in half with his samuri sword.

I doubt I would ever own one, PGO shotguns arent my favorite thing in the world, and to put a grip on the front would make it impossible to put it in a scabbord, about the only part of PGOs that I do like. But I am sure that someone out there will just eat this up.

I agree that some things are useless.... but that's not really that "out there"... it's just a handle. Bayonets for handguns are weirder than that, and those are getting popular. I got excited thinking that mossy actually made a chainsaw attachment. That would've been hilariously awesome.

This forum needs a new rule: When you talk about something new/crazy/awesome, pictures need to be posted with it!

LOL at epijunkie67

I can see it now in a Mel Brooks type movie...... bunch of guys sitting around eating beans with these "forehead mounted fart guns" strapped on..........

I do believe that somewhere there is an ENORMOUS pile of shotgun pistol grips in a warehouse that simply MUST be sold. The owner of that pile of worthless merchandise must be paying off someone at Mossberg to make things like the Rolling Thunder, Roadblocker, and THIS laughable sci-fi movie prop in order to make PGOs seem useful, heck even REASONABLE, by comparison, so he can sucker more folks into buying his product.

Used to be a PGO was the dumbest thing on the market. Nowadays... oh, no, there's WAAAY stupider stuff than that!

Just being the devil's advocate here...

The laser would make it aimable (kind of), and the chainsaw grip would control recoil better than the usual grip you can manage on those, if you absolutely demand to shoot from the hip.

I could see a few making their way into the back of armored cars or something, as an absolute last resort.

I'm still of the of opinion that a folding stock would be a better option. Then again, I'm looking forward to the movie when they hand this to Terry Crews!

Coming to a theater near you soon. Hollywood is going to love this one.

Don't let the Brady bunch see it. They will call it a pump action "assault shotgun".

I thought this was silly at first but then I watched some of the vids on it.

Apparently they created this for the sole purpose of breaching doors.

According to the Mossy rep you can control the gun better.

And my cold steel sword looks very nice on my wall. I wouldn't put it in the same category as this shotgun though. I used to collect blades, but then I found firearms. A sword can be a collectors item, and one that is actually made from high quality materials is a plus.

That shotgun on the other hand is in a whole different category.
