I visited my FFL today during my lunch break. The smell of Hoppes #9 lingered in the air, and I knew I was in for trouble... she's got an unfired Mossberg 590A1 in the case she's selling on consignment. It appears to have an 18.5" barrel, +2 mag tube extension, bead sight and sythetic slide and stock. All nicely black and tactical. (Skunkabilly, I thought of you when I saw it ;) ). The chamber, bore, and barrel are spotless, and the rest is cosmetically perfect. The asking price is $370.00 +tax+tags+fees, etc. She has permission from the owner to grant a little wiggle room on the price. I've been wanting a shotgun for my collection. What do you think, oh THR shotgun guru's? Worth the price asked, or should it be lower?

IMO, not horrible, but it could be lower, Try offering $300-325 and see what happens...

590A1 with the heavy barrel, bayo lug etc is $390 at my preferred shop. I've seen them for $325 used and fired but in 99%. I'd shoot for $325 or so and if you get it for $350, you have a shotgun that, while ugly as sin, will probably outlast your great great great grandkids. :D

Visited my FFL again and agreed on $350. I was ready to pay at least that much for a Benelli Nova Special Purpose, so it doesn't bother me. I'll be using this as a HD tool... any suggestions on what brand/style sights I should order to upgrade from the plain bead sight, or should I just leave it as-is?

Cratz2, I've been told only the 20" bbl version has the bayo lug, and I believe this one is the 18.5". I'll doublecheck it when I pick it up from the dealer and if the bayo lug is there, a proper bayonet will be the first accessory I buy.

I bought my 590A1 two years ago for $410. My 590A1 came with a 20" bbl and ghost ring sights. I think the 590A1 is a good value and very rugged. Next on my agenda is to send the bbl to Vang Comp.

Vertigo, why not shoot the thing for a while as is and see how it goes? Beads work well for HD.

And skip the bayonet. If there's a better way to bung up a barrel than by pitchforking someone with a shotgun, even those with thicker metal in the barrel, I'm unaware of it.

Roger-roger Mr. McC. I'll try things as-is for a while before I start tinkering with my new toy.

Thanks for all the great feedback, everyone. I appreciate it.
