whats the deal with the MPK titanium knives? I recently acquired an MPK-Ti multi-purpose knife brand new with a sheath. It was a gift from an EX friend. Is it a keeper? Whats the average price of one of these pieces?

I was thinking of selling or trading it..........

Thoughts?

The Knife was designed to meet the requirements of the Navy SEAL's and has also been adopted and issued by the United States Marine Corps Recon personnel. It is a titanium, light weight, non magnetic, non corrosive, multi-functional knife that can be used in all environments from the tropics to the arctic. They range depending on size from around $200-$450 in price...the Ti series in 10" runs about $425 and if you have a 12" model they run for about $450....All in all it's a pretty decent knife...Doc:D

What do you mean "what's the deal"?

Mission has been making beta 6Al4V Ti knives for a long time. Their primary customer is the DoD and other government agencies. They have national stock numbers on most of their knives. They are one of the very few companies to make knives with Ti alloy blades that hold an edge under moderate use.

I noticed that they sell for those outrageous prices stated above, wanted to know what was so special about them. I knew the seals used them because mine came from a seal buddy, other than that i didnt see what the big deal about them was....Id rather just get a $60 K-Bar and abuse it without worrying about damaging a $500 knife. Id sure hate to lose it in the field.........

What do you mean EDC? What do you do with a knife every day?

An MPK B-Ti knife isn't an EDC unless you're in the underwater mine clearing business.

Usual daily use includes cutting boxes, opening packages, stripping wire, cutting zipties, cutting food, tearing rags......etc

And self defense tool.

I got out of the underwater mine clearing business a few years ago......business was slow!

Sorry to here that. Most of the guys I know in it always said business was booming. ;)

Nope, not what I'd use the MPK for. Get a good folder like the Spyderco Native.

Ive got a few good folders for pocket knives. Im talkin more of a boot knife, along the belt type rig.

What the resale value of an MPK? Im thinkin of selling it. Right now its just a safe queen because I didnt want to ruin it.
