Thanks to Coronavirus. My daughter tested positive. She’s doing fine, but company policy says I have to take 14 days off, so range day tomorrow. I haven’t had more than a day off at a time in a year and a half now, so I’m going to get some dope charts made out to 500 yards on all the hunting rifles. iStrelok has been plenty accurate for plinking steel, but it’s time to really dial everything in and get some gun-specific data. Anybody else getting some extra time behind a rifle during this “pandemic”? 7BC4715F-969E-4472-86B9-970E99390AB5.jpeg

I'm at my club's range at least twice a month...... But I'm retired. Although when the weather broke in the spring I ran into guys at the range who were temporarily out of work for various pandemic reasons. The range was open all along but up until a couple months ago it was members only; no guests.

Another retiree here and my club never closed; in fact when all the state workers were "working from home" the range was busier than ever; must have been all those folks taking really long lunch breaks

I’m fortunate enough to have access to a private range, so I can go shoot and not risk getting anyone else sick. I think I would go completely nuts if I had to stay inside my house and quarantine for 14 days. I’m going to have to get after it early in the morning. I’ve got a lot of rifles to shoot and several things I want to do at the range before it gets miserably hot. I think the heat index is going to be well over a hundred again tomorrow.

Been that way here in Florida for about a week or so.

Yep. Y’all have it worse than we do. Hope I get to do some decent comparisons tomorrow. I’m going the be shooting 6.5 CM, 6.5x55, 6.5 Grendel and 308 out to 500 yards. I’m gonna throw the 257 Weatherby and 257 Roberts in the truck as well. Really want to shoot those two side by side.

HAVE FUN!!!

The range got more crowded of late, but everyone gets hot and goes home around noon, so I just go later lol. I've actually been to busy with work, and life to do the range stuff I'd usually do. Tomorrow cow scavanging day, so another lost day off.....

I LOST range time and dojo time and just about everything else because of the stupid virus because I caught it. I was only sick 2 days but I had to stay home 2 weeks so I wouldn't spread it around. But I had plenty of time to work out at home, do maintenance on guns, work in the yard, etc. Hope your daughter gets well soon.

Yer quite lucky. Unfortunately hot, dry and windy has enabled a fire and shooting ban in my county, which extends up into the National Forest that has a shooting area so...maybe not until fall now.

I hope your daughter is okay and that you have fun on the range. My sons and I are heading out to our place tomorrow to do nothing but shoot guns and eat well. In February we had an old stock tank dug out and I had the dozer operator push up high berms with the excess dirt. We now have a great range that extends out to 200 yards in a semi-circular design . The high tomorrow should only reach 99 with a slight breeze so that is a huge plus as well. I don't do heat as well as I did when I was a young and foolish pup.

Send one downrange (from that ruger #1) for me! I'm staying home with a 1 & 3 year old today, there's bound be be carnage , it only 8:40 and I'm already beat up.
I'll hit the range on sunday, I just set up my lee app press and I'm itching to free up some brass to process. I did have a few hundred rds I shot on Tuesday or Wednesday and I deprimed and sized them in record time (for me).
Good luck, stay well.

It got hot and muggy in a hurry, but I got in some really good range time and got everything accomplished that I wanted to accomplish.

1. Continued to break in the Dracos barrel on my 6.5 Grendel.

2. Got the Model 7 zeroed.

3. Took the 257 Weatherby out to 500 yards. Drove off and forgot to go down range and see where those rounds impacted. Guess I’ll have to go back out tomorrow.

4. Put that M77 on paper out to 300 yards. This rifle continues to be impressive for what it is. It loves the Hornady 140 gr Superformance ammo. The photo of it is a five shot group at 185 yards. I really can’t ask much more out of a hunting rifle.

5. Figured out the 257 Bob needs some work on either the rifle or finding the right load for it. Not a dog by any stretch, but certainly not in the same class as my 257 WM in the accuracy department. Still a lot of fun to shoot.

6. Took both 6.5 Creedmoors and the 300 Win Mag out 500 yards on paper. I’ve been telling myself that I need to buy some match ammo for the 300 WM, but when it’s shooting Federal Non-Typical 180 gr under 3” at 300 yards, it’s hard to swap. It did open up a good bit at 500 yards. Mostly vertical stringing from variance in velocity I think, though it could have been me. Heat monkeys were really hopping on the end of my barrel by 9:30 or so.

All in all, danged good morning away from work. Still no COVID symptoms for me and my little girl has bounced back like a champ. Hard to complain.

I sent a couple down range for you from each one of them. I love those No. 1s.
