I currently carry a Swiss Army Knife Classic.

I am thinking of "upgrading" it to a Multi-Tool.

I am not too familiar with the different brands and models of Multi-Tools.

Can anyone list the top makers of Multi-Tools and their websites, plus any suggestions for a Multi-Tool for general everyday use would be appreciated.

 :neener:

I highly recommend the Leatherperson Wave. I only wish the end was a big pair of wire cutters instead of the clamp thingy.

If you get it, get a Blade-Tech Tek-Lok belt clip for it.

While I agee with Skunk on the Leatherman, I would go with the Super Tool instead of the wave.

The great thing about the leatherman website is that they have a program that lists all of their models together so you can compare features. I am not a fan of scissors on a multitool as that is what the knife is for. I have to say, however, that the leatherman scissors are the best I've ever seen.

I've seen a lot of them in use and my Leatherman has really taken a beating. The Swiss Army Tool is highly recommended but I'll stick with an American company that offers a lifetime warranty. Gotta love the original!

I carry a Gerber Multiplier Scout along with my Benchmade Griptilian every day. As a network engineer, I use the Gerber frequently.

Unlike VaughnT, I like the small Fiskars scissors that my Multiplier has. We use waxed string to dress cables, and I often use it instead of the electrician's scissors in my toolkit.

A friend told me about a company called Sebertech that makes multi-tools.

Does anyone have a website or email address for them?

Thanks...

I went from the SAK (Victorinox) Champion (pre-Champ) to a Gerber 400 Sport. Have the Wave but like the lockability of the tools of the Sport and the quicker plier feature.

I'll throw my two cents behind the wave as well. I've carried one for a few years now, and it has served me really well. Being able to access the two locking knives, saw and file without opening the tool is very handy.

David:
Wave--locking blade, serrated blade, saw and file. Blades can be open one-pawed.
SuperTool 200--locking doodads like screwdrivers, I think. I don't own one so I'm just guessing.

I thought about getting the Crunch for something different but haven't com across a situation where I would have needed it.

IT's a matter of what you want between these two...I got the Wave because I wanted the knife one handed opening locking blades more than I wanted locking pieces. This is before I started carrying my Emerson. I'm really gentle with my hands so I don't apply much force when screwing screws in, but sometimes I don't have both hands free.

I don't know about the Swiss army tools, I don't care for the Swiss Army knives because you need both hands AND nothing on them lock.

Skunk-

What does the Blade-Tech Tek-Lok belt clip that you mentioned attach to? Is it that big of an approvement over the nylon case they come with?

The Teklok can be rotated any which way (carry it horizontally if you don't like it jabbing into yer gut and goes on and off conveniently and is adjustable for 2" down to 1.25" size belts. Downside is it holds it a smidgeon farther from yer body so isn't as good for concealment.

I'll post a pic of mine when I get home.

Another vote for the Wave. I've had the original Leatherman until I lost it last time I moved. I looked at the other brands but they all seemed cheap next to the Leatherman tools. I use it many times every day, and I love the fact that I can open the knife blades one handed, when I am holding a box/bag/rope/whatever in my other hand.

Here's one more vote for the Leatherman Wave.

I've carried or used just about every multi-tool out there over the last 10+ years (SOG, Geber, Swiss Army, Buck, etc).

I've also got most of the Leatherman products (Supertool, PST, PST II).

The Wave is by far the best one I have ever used and that's why it's what I carry every day.

The Supertool was just too heavy and the PST & PST II don't have all the features found in the Wave.

I also carry it in a horizontal nylon sheath which works great for concealment and comfort.

Here’s yet another vote for the Leatherman Wave. I’m an AD US Navy Submariner, and “down on the boat†is one of the best constant use scenarios I can think of. Each patrol I see every type of multi-tool imaginable, from the “K-mart generics†to the latest and greatest “new thingâ€. Likewise I have seen every one of them break except for the SOG and the Leatherman products, however, I have no personal experience with the SOG tools, hence my Wave vote!

I suggest leatherman. For which leatherman just go to there website and find which one suits you best. For me it is the Leatherman Supertool 200. I carry it every day with a Leatherman Micra. I had a guy make a sheath for me that holds both.

I've chosen a Leatherman Wave. It is a great tool. Comfortable to use IMHO because of the contoured handles.

Damn, clipse cut it out or you may dethrone me as the ultimate tactical

lol

Not quite. I am still waiting on my first pair of 5.11 pants:D

BTW the sheath is made out of Kydex:D

I like the Leatherman Wave because you can open 2 blades with one hand without opeing the body up. I've been carrying mine in my Blade-tech holster since I got it back in 2001.

Yes, a Leatherman Wave it is!

I just ordered it tonight, and it should arrive in a few days.

Thanks for your suggestions...

:D :p :D
