The lock---

When I shone a light down the bore, the light reflected off the face of the breech plug. Unfired since XXX (1974) does not seen to have been an exaggeration.
The lock is very well made, case hardened inside and out---or just a "finish", I don't know.
Oiled the lock because I though I might go out and play in the 105F. Why do I lie to myself?

Pair of Pietta Remington Navies, 1994 vintage and miles ahead of the ASM 1973 one that I have.

Dang thing shoots about eight inches high at fifteen feet, so I will need to graft an extension onto
the front sight blade. Amazingly tight and slick, otherwise. It's a nice companion for the Schofield.

indy, the open top is in .45 Colt and if I had known how thin the chamber walls would be, I might have had second thoughts. As it is, I will limit it to .45 Schofield loads.

wow did not know they made them like that in 45 Colt.. I was assuming 38.. is this Black Powder or is it smokeless???

I’ve seen disparaging remarks on the”red” finish on the grips on this forum, , me for myself, I like them , as well as the nice blue finishes. If the barrel states 45 Schofield kinda surprised the 45 Colt will chamber. The Schofield case is shorter and the OAL is shorter. Don’t own one, Schofield, but thought it was the it will chamber in 45 but not the other way round.

It's .45 Colt--OR--.45 Schofield and as I load some low-vel .45 Colt for my Schofield already, it's no big deal to use them in the open top too.
Yeah, people complain about red grips, the hammers that only click three times and various safety systems the Italians have to put on the pistols to make them importable. (To these complainers, I will display the Bitten Thumb.)
Oh well...
There are indeed traces of a fourth type of Uberti hammer safety system on this open top---but being a Cimarron, the system has been uninstalled, just like the lovely Schofield---

The Uberti Schofield is on my wish list. Sooner or later I’ll spring for a new one. LOL 78th bd in a few weeks, maybe before 80th. All my sons are gun people so know they will pass on.

One other thing about those reproduction Schofields and top breaks... From reading/watching many reviews they do tent to shoot high..

Mine shoots high right.. Had several friends who have ones and they also shoot high.. Does that mean I want to toss it out in the trash.. Noo.. But it is perplexing.

Love my Pietta NMN! Got it a few years back and I'm very pleased with it's overall fit and finish!
