I picked up one of these today at the gun show (the SureGrip one, not the Stag handle one). Looks to me like it's the best skinning knife ever - great design. I was trying to hold out and save up to get the K.O.A. "Super Pro Pack", including the Muskrat, but I decided to make the impulse purchase since I already have the other bases in the Super Pro Pack pretty well covered. Thoughts/experiences?

Knives of Alaska make some damn fine and sturdy knives and their sets, although on the heavy side for belt carry--great in packs, combine the tools most needed to the style of field dressing you are familiar with. I have an Brown Bear Ulu style set and a Boar knife, Bush Camp, Cub Bear, Jaeger, Yukon, Alpha and a couple of fillet knives...Not their complete collection but nearly there.

The "Muskrat" knife has been around for a long time and many of the old makers had their versions in their catalogues in the late 1800s...Sometimes called a "trapper's knife, flesher, beaver or round nose knives."

They do work very well in skinning out an animal and I know a couple of trapper friends of mine have used them on beaver with no regrets...

The fact that it is D2 steel is a bonus!
