My 1st AR15; What to add?

jame,

Slow down on bolting things to your rifle. Optics are a great addition. My suggestion is to first learn your rifle well as it sits, meaning get some quality range and training time with it first. Then consider optics and additions after you develope a great understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the weapon system that you have. Try optics that others have on similar rifles, as all optics and the way they are mounted and configured are different. For instance some prefer a optics mounted forward, while some prefer them mounted to the rear. The exact set up is of personal preference, and you might figure out that certain ways of setting it up work better for your application and eyes. Maybe seek out a shoot day or training course so you can see and try what others are using.

444,

I am curious why the A1 stock works with the Wilderness mount and the Sully stock doesn't. Would you provide me with any insite? I personally use a Daniels Defense Burnsed mount and it works great with a webbing only type single point, as well as I know others that use the GG&G mount. I also use GRSC mount with an HK style hook single point sling.

How's about just starting by getting some good ammo and getting out there, as some one said B4 me, learn to shoot it, THEN enhance it!

My suggestion... A good sling (I like CQB's 3 point) and training.
In class I have watched guys do amazing things with simple iron sights.

I purchased my first(only) ar15 last august, and have been shooting the m-16 family for 6 years in the military. So when I purchased it, I knew what I liked and didnt like about the platform.
My rifle was a bushmaster shorty 16" with flattop and detachable carry handle. I also rigged a m-60 sling to it, as Im fond of that sling for some reason.

I changed the grip to a ergo grip(stock ar grip hurts my wrist from being canted).
I purchased several cases of ammo, and started shooting it.
After shooting it a bunch, I realized that my weak hand wrist was hurting from canting it sideways, plus I wanted a light for target id. So I purchased a rail system, a verticle grip, and a g2 white light. I really like the setup, and this was back in march. I also decided that I was feeling real comfortable with the irons, and i wanted to start saving up for a holographic sight. Two weeks ago, Grant at Gander Tactical emailed me that he ahd some eotechs 552 in stock. So I ordered one. SO now my ar has the following:
Ergo grip with gapper
Tango down battle grip
Surefire G2 and first samco weapons mount
Eotech 552
BUIS arms 40
M-60 sling
cleaning kit
10 british steel 30 round magazines
5 colt 20 round magazines
3 gi 30 round magazines.

The point of my long post, is that as you recognize shortcomings in the rifle, change out the features you like/dont like. I wouldnt just flip open a catalog and start ordering. I researched each accessory, and saved up for the best one I could afford, and Im pretty happy with my ar. Next fall I would like to get the barrel lightend, and a flash suppressor added. I also am shopping for a .22 upper, probaly the CZ V-22 that SWAT just reviewed.
