Okay I know I have done like 3 SCAR/ACR threads already this year, but I just want to make an informed decision before shelling out 2500 bucks. This is the final question if you already have a 16 inch AR15 in 223/5.56 and a 16 inc AR10 in 308/7.62 would you buy a 16 inch SCAR in 5.56? If I did buy a SCAR in 5.56 I would probably turn my AR15 into a DMR with an 18 inch barrel but before I ditch my AR I have more questions about the SCAR.

1. I know the SCAR is being used by SOCOM but are they really battle proven?
2. Do you think the SCAR price will go down? I would hate to pay 2500 now and see them for 1800 later as I do not need a SCAR right now.
3. Is it going to be that much better than my AR15?

Thanks

If I was going to switch, I'd probably get a FN FS2000. Those are (well the F2000 anyway) are service rifles in several militaries, have a gas piston, and are very compact. Prices have come down a lot too. I saw some at the last gunshow for $1900.

The poll options are too limiting.

1. would I get one - yes, but not necessarily at the current price point.
3. do I have AKs - yes. Not sure why a SCAR would be mutually exclusive to owning an AK.

The SCAR has been rigorously tested and I think it's safe to say it's battle worthy. Granted it has yet to prove itself like the AR platform has done but I would be very comfortable carrying a SCAR into combat.

I'm not optimistic that the SCAR will drop a whole lot in price. It's possibly once the black SCAR and SCAR-H hit the market that the tan SCAR's will drop in price, at least that's what I'm hoping. FN is unpredictable when it comes to pricing. When the FS2k first hit the market it sold for hundreds less than it does today, same is true with the PS90.

I'm willing to wait on the SCAR but I do want one for my collection at some point. If they do drop below $2k I would probably buy one.

I wouldn't say that the SCAR is better, just different. Both guns have their advantages and disadvantages. I certainly wouldn't want to give up being an AR owner if I bought a SCAR, I would want both in my collection.

I'd buy almost anything, if the price made sense.

I already own 16" ARs, and I still plan to buy more. I already own .270 hunting rifles, and I still plan to buy at least one more. What I already have, doesn't really make much difference in choosing the next gun, so much as what/why that next gun is needed/wanted for.

1. Yes, at least in my book.
2. Yes, surely, hopefully.
3. Maybe. I wouldn't toss the ARs because I bought a SCAR.

Yeah, I'd buy one. The price should drop pretty substantially after a while. They only cost a little bit more to produce than an M16 according to the guy that priced out all the parts (that lives across the street from me :) )

The price should drop just like the prices on the PS90 and FS2000 have dropped.

I don't think it really deos anything an AR deosn't allready do with less weight, cost, and possibly better accuracy. I do think it's a great new rifle, but the OBR and LMT .308 have all off my drooly attention now.

One thing I can virtually guarantee - it WILL drop in price. I know this because currently demand far outstrips supply - therefore, unless you've got a very charitable dealer buying from a very charitable distributor, they're both making a strong markup.

You KNOW the price is going to drop like a rock... they won't sell for beans, well MAYBE at first but they will taper very fast and prices will follow.

6 months you will find them used for 1,600.

Ther's two at my Local shops that are just sitting. Nobody want to spend that kind of cash on something a little more reliable than an AR but worse in many other areas.

Price will drop.

I sure hope so. It'll probably be 6 months or so before I'm looking to buy a rifle and it'd be nice to be able to get a SCAR-L at that price. I have a 22LR M4rgery and a Sig 556, but I'd still love to get a SCAR-L if the price dropped to more like $1500 (which is what I paid for the Sig).

Two ARs or one SCAR, which is more reliable? with two ARs I can arm a minion to watch my back :)

I don't care if it looks like a Rupaul's ugly sister, it functions, is compact, and has made it thru military trials in several countries.

Another plastic rifle?

I have an AUG and a PS90 so I'm not opposed to plastic rifles but for money like that it needs to be out in the real world for a while. I don't care whose name on it or that its passed some tests.

I'm not going to run out and get one with the experiences I've had with plastic rifles ... my satisfaction with plastic rifles is about 50% ... I'm done being a civilian beta tester

Remember the Valmet M82 with its cracking and crumbling stocks?

Remember the early HK G36/SL8 with trigger housing cracking and breaking?

I'll wait.
